Ridiculous suggestion of mine: Olympia Snowe as the Dem's running mate |
|
or Susan Collins.
Very moderate Republicans who are currently estranged from the current crop of Republicans. Female. Smart (except for staying Republican).
Clark/Snowe, or Warner/Collins, or variations thereof.

1. They vote against our interests probably 95% of the time. |
|
They have gone along with BushCo on almost everything.
They need to lose their seats in the blue state of Maine.
They, along with Chafee, are truly not our friends.

5. I agree. Watch for Collins and Snowe in the Alito vote. |
|
They will be right along all the repukes. And you can't be moderate and think Alito is OK. I'd like both to lose to Dems when their turn comes up.

6. I think the tide is turning against Bush-type Republicans |
|
but not necessarily against moderate Republicans. Anyone more liberal than a John Kerry would not have a chance in Pluto of winning the White House. That rules out a candidate like Dennis Kucinich or Barbara Boxer.

To quote the voters in California this week: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Granted, Snowe's numbers are higher among Democrats than Republicans in Maine, but still, no.

We have some great Democrats that can lead the charge...why go cherry pick someone who obviously is at home in the Repuke Party.
I like Lincoln Chafee a lot, but if we could replace him with a Democrat I would IN A HEARTBEAT.
Chaffee votes pretty good a lot of the time, but he is part of who gives power to the Christo-fascist right. He may oppose them on occasion, but he (and Snowe/Collins) acquiesces to their agenda if for no other reason than he is one extra Republican to help give majority to the thugs.
NO…The only way I’d EVER consider any former Republican as a potential candidate as a Democrat is if they change party affiliations, run as a Democrat and win, and serve as a Democrat, and vote as a Democrat. Then we’ll talk. But there are too many good Democrats out there with the right vision in their heart slaving their way up the ladder to try to make this nation a better place who I would trust far more than a “rehabilitated Dem” (I say all this while admitting I’m one…former right-winger)

|
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 06:47 PM by Rowdyboy
Boxer is a feisty campaigner and history has shown Americans care little about the ideology of the vp nominee. As to Clinton as vp, by 2008 Americans are going to be suffering from severe Bush fatigue. Certainly, she wouldn't be my choice, but then I don't get a say in the matter.
I think we'll win in'08 regardless of who the vp is, including Hillary.

I'm sick of all these idiotic posts suggesting that Dem candidates take Republican running mates.
I've got a better idea. How about Jeb Bush with Kucinich or Boxer as his running mate?Makes about the same amount of sense.

Giving legitimacy to Republicans and their policies is what's caused the Dems to become utterly irrelevant in national politics.
Irrelevant. As in- they might as well not even be in Congress or the Senate- because they have zero bearing on policy or procedure.

23. If they were truly estranged, you may have a point |
|
But the reality is that they have marched in step with the group of thugs at the White House and have helped further their agenda while masquerading as moderates. Sure, they'll give their supporters back in their Northeastern state the occasional bone on social security reform or some other issue but usually only if it doesn't jeopardize the measure from getting through the Senate.
As it is, Collins and Snowe are two of the most spineless moderates in the Senate. Chafee at least voted against the IWR while Specter issued warnings to the * Administration about appointing extremist RW judges and Voinovich initially opposed the Boulton nomination (although all three of them have wimped out on too many other occasions). Even some of the more centrist senators in the GOP such as McCain, Hagel and Graham have taken on the White House on issues such as Iraq. But Collins and Snowe have proven notoriously weak in challenging the White House on policy issues so why should they be rewarded with a VP position?
If there were more Republicans such as Lowell Weicker, Nancy Landon Kassebaum, Jacob Javitz, Bill Cohen, John Chafee, John Heinz and the like -who truly stood up to the RW of the party and in some cases paid the price -perhaps it could be a point to consider. But the reality is that neither Collins or Snowe is estranged from the current crop of Republicans because they throw in their lot with them in senate votes and also in campaigning for the * Administration

They may appear moderate but they rarely vote against the GOP when it counts. Check the record.
I want our Democratic ticket to be just that - Democratic.
I find this idea totally repulsive. (nothing personal, brentspeak.)
As a constituent of these women I couldn't go along with anything of this sort.
