The Democrats New Contract With America..Please Add Yours
Here's my Ideas for what the Democrats need to push as their new Agenda.

1)Withdraw All American Troops from Iraq ASAP.Promise NEVER AGAIN to invade a country simply on intelligence info only.

2)Return to Pre George W. Bush years by returning our civil rights back to "We the People". First Ending all torture techniques and return to the Geneva Convention Rules.No exceptions!Then recinding most of the Patriot Act.

3)Take away the Tax cuts for the richest 1% of the Rich.Apply it to the National Debt.

4)Restore the Fairness Docturine so that Journalism can become real again instead of opinionated journalism.

5)Make sure everyone vote counts by using a paper trail on all voting machines.Reform the voter purge rolls making sure that no one is on the list that should not be.

6)National Health Care for every man, woman, and child in this country.
7) Balance the Budget.

8)Send most of our Diplomats on a worldwide tour to all the allied countries to restore our integrity with the world.

9)Regulate all U.S. Business in the areas of environmental laws to assure they abide by the Clean Air and The Clean Water Act. All previous laws before Bush2 are reinstituted.

10)Get faith based programs out of our government to assure seperation between chruch and state.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please add Your and then let's send this to Howard Dean!
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 10:30 PM by bluestateguy
Just make it go away. Erase it from history. Expunge them from the House Journal, and formally rescind them. Make it illegal to even broach the subject on the House floor.
28. I should have said," patrol the borders" and turn away
all comers sort of like the Minutemen Project.Immigrants who came through Ellis Island came to America legally,some were quarrantined some were allowed to migrate out west,south and north.Today,they come
through the desert untagged unaccounted for and unannounced.Here in the Bronx my local strip of stores everyone has a Mexican or 2 some
have 5.Meanwhile local jobs were a staple of the neighborhood not any
more the competition with low/no skilled laborers takes away from the Americans.
I'm not looking for a fight barenakedliberal just a job....
16. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO A THOUSAND TIMES NO!
What the fuck is with us as a party if we have to co-opt the worst, most ridiculed and easily-mocked idea of the REPUBLICAN'S as our own "theme?" What the fuck are we thinking? When NEWT GINGRICH, the meanest, nastiest prick of his time, came up with it, WE quickly re-labeled it "The Contract ON America.' So now some of us want to steal the name and use it for our own? Will we be crying foul when the republicans turn it around and ridicule US for it? COME ON PEOPLE!
We are supposed to be talking about NEW IDEAS, not recycling the moniker of Newt Gingrich's hateful policies.
Sorry for the rant, but in case you can't tell, this REALLY gets under my skin -- the merits of the proposal might be good, but by slapping a recycled, worn, ridiculed REPUBLICAN nameplate on it, whatever "ideas" we come up with lose cred before they get out of the starting gate.
17. ah, looking for a better title, eh?
ok ...
how about "A Bridge to the 22nd Century" ... the 21st was already used and frankly i've had about enough of this century anyway ... we could sell it as "far seeing" ...
or maybe we could call it "the New, Improved Deal" ... i think that's how advertisers often upgrade their campaigns ...
18. Re-Deal?
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 11:07 PM by Atman
It sounds silly at first, and it probably is. But it is MORE, much more than just a "new title." This title will be mocked by Tweety, Russert, et al, at every chance they get. Republicans will immediately say "See, the dems can't come up with anything original." I've got a 25 year marketing career, which included two Fortune Fifty companies. I'm not talking out of my ass. The title is what will appear in the headlines, on the news teasers, everywhere. We need to stop using is YESTERDAY, even if just in brainstorming sessions.
21st Century? Americans don't have any idea what century this is. Seriously. It's meaningless. Make it personal to them. Do I have the ideal, roll-off-your-tongue idea yet? No. But I know the longer and more often we use this god-awful "contract" moniker, the more likely it is to stick and be used against us.
19. i don't think it's a silly point at all ...
and i'm happy to say i know nothing about marketing at all ...
but if i had to come up with a name, i think it should have the following criteria:
1. it has to be easily remembered (i.e. a catchy title)
2. it has to convey some meaning
3. it has to be hard to make fun of (i.e. it has to play defense too)
one of the problems the Democrats have had over the last year or so is that they are easily tagged as the Party with no ideas ... even Dean, on MTP today, acknowledged that the Party would not be putting out any detailed ideas until 2006 ...
about a month ago, i offered the following on DU:
we could call it the "Democratic Party's Top Ten List" ...
i liked it because it would have immediate name recognition (it's even a little "hip") and it conveyed the point that our "biggest and best" ideas were encapsulated in a straightforward list of ten key points ... the few replies i received genuinely hated it ... like i said, what the hell do i know about marketing?
29. I absolutely agree... we need something new and catchy...
every time I read Contract With America my natural inclination is to change it to Contract ON America. If we're going to recycle a catch phrase it should be a) a "Dem" one and b) have positive connotations for everyone.
(apologies for my lateness to this thread... I just found it via a link elsewhere on DU)
31. Agreed.
What would you think about something that references "reclaiming America", or "back to basics"? And calling it a "plan" instead of a "contract"?
I guess calling a list of key ideas the "Stating the Obvious" Plan (that's what I call it in my head) would be construed as sarcastic though.
21. Decriminalize Drugs!
A big reason why the counry supported Roosevelt in 1932 is because Democrats were for the repeal of Prohibition. By 1932, the public was fed up with pointless, destructive Prohibition and wanted a return to normalcy.
I think the majority of Americans today feel the same way about the War on Drugs (or at least the War on Pot). Adding the decriminalization of drugs to the Democratic platform would be a brave as well as a sensible move. I think it would GAIN votes rather than lose them.
35. China's Serious Environment Problem
China's Serious Pollution Problem
Are you going to China? Then I will tell you pollution in China is very serious. The Chinese and government official's environmental protection consciousness is very low. The Chinese industry economy increases quickly; pollution grows more serious more; and the great majority of Chinese are insensitive to the pollution. This is a Chinese, as well as, global disaster in the making. I request you help China.
Car and motorcycle traffic is increasing greatly. The population in China is multitudinous"1300000000".is five times as the population of the US. China is short of cultivated land. in spite of this case,The Chinese government is developing the private car industry greatly, new highway construction will take up large areas of land. Traffic accidents increased greatly. In 2003 200,000 people died in traffic accidents in China.
Building development is in mass confusion. Building technique is primitive and building in consuming large amounts of materials. In 2003 China poured 44% of the world's cement. Building a house will consume more amounts of cement brick and decorative colorful brick in China than The Western Nation. But these houses make little use of insulation letting heat flow out in the winter and letting the heat in during the hot summer months. House repairs are more difficult, too.chinese concerns beauty of own house very much,but chinese don't concern about environment round the house.they spend large money on their own house,but they are stingy in cost of the environment around their house.
Garbage removal is primitive.chinese don't know Garbage classification.waste plastic bags is visible everywhere. The Chinese people like to use plastic bags and batteries just once and then throw them away.china government pay great attention to beauty of city.they afford large money in images structure of city.but they pay little attention to garbage classification.large amounts of garbage is made by large consumption.
River is polluted by chemical fertilizer,pesticide,herbicides,chemical synthetic detergent(washing powders),industry waste water,human excrement and urine,garbage.waste water excrement and urine flow directly into river without any sanitation practices.the most river in china is unsuitable for drinking.many china people is harmed by drinking water in polluted river.
Education in protecting environment is blank. People's understanding and concept of protecting the environment is quite low. China's people are poor, but they are not frugal.Chinese are concerned the beauty of house but don't concerned the beauty of environment,Chinese are concerned about their own health but don't care about environmental health. They like to inject and swallow more medicines,eat more wild animals, but they don't realize that the polluted food, water and air is threatening their health greatly.
China is imitating the West's high pattern of consumerism. Chinese hope per a people owning private car and Motorcycle,living big and big house. Consuming large power source as Western nations do. The Chinese government is making effort to realize this aim. China is producing large cars and motorcycles, large cement and brick.Exploiting large coal mines and oil field, large ore mines. Building large multi-story buildings and huge highway construction patterns. Enlarging blindly more and more area of cities and towns land. Large areas of land are damaged by the exploitation of natural resources.
The population in China is multitudinous, 1.3 billion(perhaps 1.4or1.5 billion)people, five times the population of the US. China is short of cultivated land. The actual situation demands that China doesn't imitate the West's high consumption. China should develop electronic information consumption. Should develop economizing energy industries. If not, the Chinese would ruin their own environment,in further more, affect the global environment.
The Chinese don't realize that pollution is their most dangerous enemy.
36. Cancer Treatment: Helpful or Harmful?
Cancer Treatment: Helpful or Harmful? ----the human immunity is important in against disease
Cancer is a malignant tumour,not a benign tumour.it is an incurable disease; the patient moves towards the death finally like the rotten tree. Medical treatment in cancer is only a blind experiment. It can't prolong the patient's life. It is harmful to the human body and accelerates the patient's death instead.
Cancer is formed when the mutant cell reproduces greatly. The latest views suggest that cancer cells produce all the time in human life. Usually it hasn't enough time to reproduce before it be killed by the human body's immune system. However, if the human immune system is weak the cancer cells reproduce rapidly and the cancer tumor forms. For example a country, if its military strength is very weak a rebel insurgency can develop rapidly and overthrow its government.
At present treatment to cancer included: The operation, medicine chemotherapy, Radiotherapy(radioactive rays), and the traditional Chinese medicine with superstition color. Operation chemotherapy and radiotherapy is a harmful treatment.while it works to kill cancer cells,it also unfortunately kill many healthy cells. They can't remove the cancer tumor, but destroy the human body greatly. This harmful treatment reduces the immune function of the human further, creating more opportunity for the cancer tumor's reproduction . And the traditional Chinese medicine comfort patient by psychology. It is harmful to the human body to take the traditional Chinese medicine in a large amount.
It is important to strengthen our body's immune system. Polluted food, water and air are harmful to our immunity and all fountion in our body.protecting environment is to protect our health. A fine natual environment free of pollution is the best precaution against cancer,and the best treatment to prolong the cancer patient's life.
