New Report Shows GOP Congress’ Support For Bush Agenda Exceeds The Support Previous Presidents Have Had From Their Party in Congress
Stepford Congress: A startling 91% of Senate Republicans, 80% of House Republicans voted in sync with Bush White House in 2004
A new report released today by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) shows that the GOP Congress’ support for the Bush agenda exceeds the support that previous presidents have had from their party in Congress in recent years.
The report underscores the extent to which Republicans in Congress have become a rubber stamp for the Bush agenda and was released by the Chairs of the DSCC and the DCCC, Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emmanuel as well as the Minority Whips of the House and Senate, Steny Hoyer and Dick Durbin.
“People who turn on C-Span nowadays think they’re watching a scene out of the Stepford Wives considering how much the Republicans march in lockstep with the President,” Schumer said. “America can do better than a GOP Congress that takes what this White House says at face value – no questions asked. This report shows that the GOP’s ‘see no evil, hear no evil’ approach makes Republicans in the Senate and House just as culpable as the President for the misguided policies being advanced today in Washington.”
