I can't be the first DUer to post this, but I couldn't find any earlier posts. Here's the letter I sent:

Dear Mr. O'Reilly,

Please be sure to include my name on your enemies list, as near to the top as possible. After reviewing the list of my beliefs, I'm sure we'll both agree that I stand for everything you abhor.

I believe strongly in:

Speaking truth to power and condemning the abuse of power

Holding our democratically elected officials responsible for their actions

Pledging allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, not to individuals who put themselves above the law

Free elections with valid, verifiable results

A strong military that is bestowed generous benefits for the sacrifices our soldiers make

A military that is sacrificed only as a last resort for true defense, rather than as an invading army for economic conquest

A media that is not the slavish lapdog to the most corrupt administration in U.S. history

1. I've been waiting for this. Here's my letter.

Dear Bill,

I would like to be placed on your 'enemies list'. Here's why I am your enemy:

I think Americans can support the troops without supporting the president (so does Trent Lott).

I think your president and his cronies have lied repeatedly to American citizens and servicemen about life and death issues.

I think your president and his cronies chose to out a CIA agent for political purposes. That is treasonous.

I think your president is ruining our nation's economy.

I think your president and his cronies are responsible for and advocate torture.

I think your president is morally bankrupt.

I think you are morally bankrupt and a hypocrite.

If you need a photo, I would be happy to send one.

Dear Mr. O'Reilly,

Please include me on your enemies list.

Reasons why:

If I were such a person to have an enemies list myself (which is a sure sign of a fundamentally flawed personality), you'd most definitely be on it.

You are a blight on the very soul of our mutual Celtic heritage.

You and the truth have less than a nodding acquaintance.

You hate democracy and love tyranny.

You attack the righteous and support the corrupt.

Your callous disregard for the safety and security of a fine American City and its population reveal your utter lack of humanity.

You, sir, are a modern Pharisee who'd be the first in line to call for a repeat of the crucifixion if Christ were born today.

And, aside from that, you're a particularly large turd in the polluted punchbowl of American discourse.

3. Here is mine.

Dear Mr. O'Reilly

I hearby request that you add my name to your Enemies list.

Your offhanded remarks about an American city being open for terrorist attack makes you, in my opinion, an enabler of terrorism.

When given the opportunity to retract your statements, you in fact defended them, stating "(it) needed to be said".

Now I'm sure you will go on and on about how we lefties are out to smear you by taking your remarks out of context, but there is great difficulty taking remarks out of context when the aforementioned context is recorded.

In conclusion, if you are representative of what America now is, consider me an enemy of the state.

Dear Bill,

So, you think you're the hot stuff of the airwaves, eh? You pounce on those you feel bloviate when you are the worst offender? Perhaps you've forgotten that this great nation thrives upon debate and dissent. When that debate and dissent is stifled, it wells up until it can be contained no longer. The resulting explosion usually has tragic results.

People like you, Bill, are the ones trying to stifle debate and dissent. You want everyone to fall in lock-step with your belief system and goosestep to the march of the Bush administration's war drums.

Well, let me tell you one thing, Bill. That will never happen. Not in a million years. Americans will not be stifled. You can keep on bloviating to your hearts content. In fact, I encourage it. You are doing more to reveal the hypocritical cowardice of the right-wing ideology than you can imagine.
