What would your ideal political spectrum be? |
|
If I could re-arrange the political landscape, I would create the following:
Democratic Party - Left, same as right now, only groups like PDA and DFA have the lion's share of influence.
Progressive Republican Party - This would be essentially a return to the moderate-liberal Northeastern party that dominated the Eisenhower years. People from the DLC, and suburbanites who want to keep abortion and limit our involvement in wars, but want few taxes would make up the lion's share of the party. It would be a moderate libertarian with a lower case "l" type of entity. Hillary and Michael Bloomberg would be prominent members. The GOP would miraculously purge their conservative wing and add "Progressive" to the beginning of the name, since they are progressive in a sense that is relative to the extreme right, even if they are only centrist.
Law & God Party - The current fundy and militant group that dominates the GOP would go to this party. They would never get more than 30% of the vote (in a very good election period) and would be margainalized to the deep south and parts of the plains.
Presidential lections would typically turn out like this in the popular vote:
Democrats: 45%-55% Progressive Republicans: 30%-45% Law & God: 7%-30%

1. The trick is to use militarism and religion issues as wedge issues AGAINST |

the GOP, rather than letting them using them against us. Currently, creationism is a big wedge issue in conservative circles (drop it into a room of diverse freepers and watch); abortion also has that potential. The Iraq War is rapidly developing into a wedge issue. The election year conversation needs to be about these issues rather than about gay marriage and guns.

2. Don't misunderestimate Law and God, |
|
When Alan Keyes pulls 27% in Illinois with no more platform than returning the nation to Christianity---without a single relative or political ally in the entire state--you can be pretty sure MOST states have 27% and the south considerably more.

5. Yeah, don't be so sure. He was running against Obama |
|
I'm in a suburb of Chicago that went 45% Kerry and there were plenty of Keyes signs out. Running against a handsome, articulate, nice guy with a national platform, Keyes paradropped into the state, campaigned practically nowhere BUT churches and still pulled 27%. I was pretty shocked.
Don't misunderestimate the theocracy, return to God faction. I put it at 30% nationally if Keyes got 27%

and conservatives thoroughly leashed,The corporates OUT of government, the fundies keeping church in church..Andthe political environment consisting of the left, and lefter. Conservatives used to stand for THINKING through changes and being wise with spending...
These are "values" any person has who has ever had to live on a budget or had to think of someone ewlse besides themself has to live by.
Rich Ceo pigs kids do not have to stick to a budget they are born with silver spoons in thier mouths so they don't know what conserving or fiscal responsibility IS. The inherited wealthy they don't know how hard it is to live as a citizen dominated by corporate thieves like themselves who don't care about anyone they exploit because thier money is all that counts to them ..
The only "values" worth having in a government are LEFT...because they are about HUMAN rights, empathy, fairness and wise values that you don't see among the extremely wealthy people who never had to feel the pain of a budget that denies them what they want, or the suffering of poverty..
NEVER again elect a super rich and disconnected from the lower clasees kind of "elitist"person who inherited their wealth and never suffered like citizens have.NEVER again trust a super religious person or a corporate CEO to public office again. Given the massive money and zealot religion, these things corrupts decision makers into being assholes who can't think fairly because of a conflict of interests that does not consider the realities of the american people.
