Wow, Michael Moore is at his best right now on C-Span... |
|
I'm sure there are plenty other threads going on about this, but, I never have heard him this good before.
You know, Michael Moore gets vilified by the Right. Some people probably dismiss him as an annoying troublemaker without even knowing anything about him or politics or even being political themselves.
But, Michael Moore has a good heart. He has spent his life making films that fight for the little man. For regular people. What's more, the people who criticize him the most don't have his record of fighting for the people. They do just the opposite, actually. Michael Moore may not be Robin Hood, but his critics are Reverse Robin Hoods. Witness the fiasco last friday in the House. Not the Hunter Resolution. But the cutting of benefits for the poorest in our country. Food stamps, Medicaid, and child care enforcement. It was shameful. And next week, they are going to start pushing through over 70 billion in tax cuts. Talk about unmitigated gall.
If anybody should be vilified it should be Republican Congressional leaders and this administration. They are the worst of the worst. Say what you want about Michael Moore, but he's not a hypocrite. He doesn't cloak himself in the flag and thump a bible and then go out and screw the military and go against everything that Jesus taught. He goes out and makes passionate films about important topics. That never has hurt anybody. But, his critics hurt plenty of people. Every day and with every vote and with every decision they make.
So I'd rather be associated with the Michael Moore wing of the Democratic party than with the George Bush wing of the Republican party. At least we've never killed anybody. At least we never let anybody starve to death. At least we've never stood by and watched predicted national disasters happen and not done a damn thing about it.
So yes, he's not perfect, but I don't ever doubt where Michael Moore's heart lies. I do doubt where his critic's hearts lie though.
And, they are the ones who are in charge and should be held accountable.
So we can't back down and put up with this shit. If they want to hit us, we have to hit them first. Harder and faster. It doesn't matter if it's Michael Moore, John Kerry or Jack Murtha getting hit. It doesn't matter if you are a Clark supporter or a Hillary supporter or a Dean supporter or whomever we all sit around and debate about. Because if you attack one Dem then you attack all of us. What nerve! See the way you make a bully leave you alone is you punch 'em in the mouth.
I say it's way past the time that we knock these fuckers out.

1. He's amazing and funny |
|
His conversation with the sign language interpreter had me rolling. :D
I love his common sense approach. Common sense that the right defines as "far left" for some reason.

25. He just had a conversation with her |
|
She said something verbally and MM said that he's never heard the interpreter talk. Then he asked her what the sign was for "Karl Rove". I guess you had to see it to get the humor. :) Watch it again tonight.

36. I caught it this evening. I think he noticed her saying something out |
|
loud, and just stopped for a moment. Then commented on all the times you see the person doing sign language and never saying a word.
Then he got into a little funny dialogue with her.
She made faces showing distaste for Rove et al.
I also loved his little dialogue with himself at the Oscars about whether to just blow them a kiss and walk off the stage, or to stop and SAY something! He's very talented.
I agreed with most if not everything he said, and I really liked the way he said it.
So Wellstone helped him get access for some of his footage, very interesting.
He really is a good guy. And he says it is entertaining watching his name being bandied about by the neocons.
They try to demonize him cause he told the truth, cause he showed the world the truth.
Viva Michael Moore!

If you aren't completely nuts some of them consider you far to the left, no matter how pragmatic and reasonable your opinions are. A large part of the Republican party think John McCain and Chuck Hagel are liberals. It's messed up, lol.

He is correct that we must find "common ground." He is also correct that we must ready to say what we believe, and we must find leaders who do the same.

7. Yes, And He Seems To Be Striking A Theme Of Common Ground |
|
Dems-Repugs-religious-not religious, etc. As a matter of fact, he's talking religion more than I would have thought. Talking about two groups going into Heaven - some who will get in, and some who won't. Talking about "You're not getting into Heaven without a permission slip from the poor." Also, citing Bible verses that say "Whatever you do to the leaset among us, you do to Me." Wow, Mike is very moving - seems emotional like have not seen him before.

I was raised one. I am quite religious and believe strongly that the Republican party and supply-side economics is antithetical to Jesus's teachings. One reason why I am a Dem and always will be is because of my faith. Moore impressed me with the way he talked about religion. He sounded honest and forthright. You could see and hear him getting emotional. You said it right, he was very moving.

always have. I think the reason he's been so vilified is because he was one the first to come out strongly, publicly against Bush policy and the war. He dared to be the first to say the emperor had no clothes and ruin the party. It's "kill the messenger" mentality. Even now that the public is finding out he was right all along, they still see him as "radical." What a dysfunctional society we are. :eyes:

33. Moore was great; Perle was awful! |
|
Richard Perle was on when I turned C-SPAN on around 8:15 and lasted till 9am..
I watched him just out of curiosity and that guy is downright scary and totally insane. And most of the callers were on his side. Yuck.
A little later I saw the end part of Michael Moore's Sunday speech, and I was so thankful to be able to hear someone who could make me laugh, smile, and applaud. Thank you, MM!
He was right on in saying that GM and Ford wouldn't be in this mess if they had committed to making a quality product instead of one that was no good.. unlike Honda and Toyota.
I own a Honda CR-V by the way. I've had it for seven and a half years, and it just had its first problem today when a fuse blew and cost $18 to repair.

over 100,000 miles on it over the next ten years, and during that time, the only repair she had was that she replaced the muffler once. It sounds like they solved that problem for the CRV :) .
She changed the oil regularly, but didn't have the regularly scheduled maintenance after about 45,000 miles.
I suspect she bought new tires at some point, but she didn't mention it.

They don't watch C-SPAN. They just know of a guy who looks too large and shabbily dressed. Easy to villify.
And, he scarily catches on too quickly, he's smart. That scares people.
BUT, people are confused by their prior beliefs in the Right-wing, and will listen to Mike, now. Where before they would not.

38. It was interesting to see the footage of Moore's Oscar speech again. |
|
That was long before I joined DU. (Was DU around back then?)
Shortly after the Academy Awards show, there was an article in the Oakland Tribune about Moore getting booed. Vicente Franco, one of the documentarian nominees on stage, said that all the booing was coming from the ushers at the event.
Question: Could the Academy Award ushers have been another Tom DeLay hit squad? They knew that Moore had been nominated and would likely speak out in any acceptance speech he gave.
