Note from Florida chair about the conference in Orlando....great Dems.
From Karen Thurman, Florida State Chair..looks like Dean will be on Saturday as well as or instead of Friday. Great bunch of Democrats there.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
As the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, I want to remind you that our 2005 Conference is coming up in just over a week. We still have room for a few good Democrats and I wanted to take this last chance to let you know what we have planned.

First up, for the dinner on Saturday, December 10, we have featured speakers US Senator Barak Obama and our National Party Chair, Dr. Howard Dean. Senator Obama and Dr. Dean will talk about the Democratic Party's message for the 2006 election cycle, and discuss the many opportunities ahead for Democrats from all over the country to be part of our march to victory next year. We also have former US Senator John Edwards and Governors Mark Warner and Tom Vilsack making presentations.

But these three prospective Presidential candidates are just the beginning. All of our statewide candidates will be with us: US Representative Jim Davis and State Senator Rod Smith, who are running for Governor; State Senator Walter Campbell, running for Attorney General; Alex Sink, running for Chief Financial Officer and Eric Copeland, running for Agriculture Commissioner.

There will also be exciting opportunities for training. We will have workshops on Small Donors Fundraising, Campaign Finance Compliance, our new Voter File application (the Voter Activation Network, known as "VAN") Early & Absentee Voters and Earned Media. Our Outreach Caucuses will be meeting to discuss the issues affecting African-Americans, Women, Young Democrats, GLBT Democrats, Hispanics, Democrats with Disabilities and Carribbeans. The Small Counties Coalition will also meet.

The Democratic Party is on the move, as we challange George W. Bush's mismanagement of the coutry. Our off-year election results were extremely favorable -- we elected new Democratic Governors in New Jersey and Virginia, despite being outspent by the Republicans. The off-year local elections here in Florida were also favorable, as Democrats overwhelmingly won in the "nonpartisan" county and city elections. We have the momentum to sweep next year's elections -- now we need to build a great Democratic Party for our great state!

Incidentally, there is stil time for interested Democrats to be appointed as delegates for the Conference. You can sign up on our website, at www.fladems.com/donate/delegateRegistration.php -- where you can also see the whole conference agenda and sign up for meals, as well.

Join me, our elected Democrats and the state Party staff in Orlando as we prepare to make the 2006 elections a "slam dunk" for the Democrats!

PS -- If you have any difficulty signing up through the website, or if you would just prefer to register by phone, call the Florida Democrat Party office toll-free at 1-800-925-3411 between 8:00 AM and 6:30 PM Monday through Friday.)

I'd love to go to that. Too bad I'm not in Florida. Just wondering: if you go to any event like that do you have to just purchase a ticket or do you have to be a DNC member? I've never been to a political event so I was just wondering. And yes my mother told me that Dean was going to be on tonight. :D

3. The prices are really steep. Here is a partial list.
The events appear to have changed a little, but you get the idea. Dean was on Friday, with the cost just being the convention cost...so I don't know now.

DNC Chair Howard Dean, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer: Friday
Welcome Reception, 7PM (I believe Friday night is Dean's request)

Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack: Saturday Breakfast, 7:30 AM ($75.00)

Hon. John Edwards: Saturday Lunch, 12:30 PM ($100.00)

Senator Barack Obama: Saturday Dinner, 8:00 PM (175.00)

Virginia Governor Mark Warner: Sunday Brunch, 9:30 AM (100.00)

I heard an overall entry price of 300.
