1. Typical repugnican response:
"That's a very September 10th attitude"

2. you mean I should be fearful and not ask questions?

sorry, never bought into the fear mongering.

back to the question. have all VPs had restricted airspace over their houses (even when they are not there) or over where ever they happened to be?

3. Prohibited Area P-56, surface to 18,000-ft MSL.
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 01:14 PM by DemoTex
The VP mansion (the Naval Observatory), like the White House, the Capital, and mall, is protected by P-56 (Prohibited Area). It has been that way for as long as I can remember.

5. The authority is in place to set up temporary Prohibited Areas.
It travels with the clowns. Sometimes those temporary areas are in place until the end of an administration. I see nothing wrong with reasonable protection, and the close airspace (like around Wyoming residences or Crawford pig farm) qualifies for that.

In the great scheme of things, it is the responsibility of the pilot (or captain), to check the NOTAMS (Notice To Airmen). That is where any airspace closures are published. Once in NOTAM form, the notice carries the force of FAA Regulations, with appropriate certificate (pilot's license revocation), criminal, or civil action, looming as deterrents to any violations.
