Why it is stupid to talk about who will be our candidate in 2008.
Carter and Clinton came out of no where. And they won. I remember thinking, in both of those races, "who is that guy and I hope he doesn't win the nomination. Too conservative for me."

I was wrong. (They were/are too conservative for me but I was wrong about not wanting them to win the nomination.)

We should be so lucky in 2008 as to have a total unknown sweep us off our feet.

Right now we are just going to eat each other alive supporting "our" candidate. The election season is long enuf without starting this early.

We need to focus on 2006. If we can't make some gains in congress or the states republicans will be shoving us around for a long time.

We need to fix the gerrymandering and start some more investigations on these crooks.

18. indeed, the media won't have 2 years to build him up so they can
destroy him and sell more papers (or get more viewers or whatever the reason they did it to Dean.)

5. Will do, but let's focus on 2006
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 06:23 PM by politicasista
If we lose in 06, then he or no one will have a chance in 08.

4. Agree. Focus on 2006
Talking about 2008 is only playing into the hands of the media. It takes the focus off * and the GOP Congress troubles.

6. exactly- focus on 2006-- take out a repub-- vote in a DEM in the house
races, coming up in 2006. Heres Anne Wolfe and Howard Dean--

Anne is running in NJs 5th CD. Shes a real good DEM, Solid and full of spunk, personally selected by DR. Dean after he saw her speak, for the DEANS DOZEN.

2006 is time to

TAKE THE HOUSE BACK

8. No kidding....expose GOP control of media and voting machines FIRST.
Cripes, you can't even talk abiout what a senator or governor is doing today or even about withdrawal plans without having to argue 2004 and 2008 around here.

9. Not stupid, just too early.
Too many things can happen between now and '07 - including the mid-term elections, that may re-figure the playing field.

To choose a candidate now would pigeon-hole the party and give the GOP that much more time for Swiftboating of whomever it is we have out front.

11. The reason why it's OKAY to focus on 2008 right now......
Because... when you have the WORST PRESIDENT EVER (which we do)-- it's a great distraction and it gives us some hope for the future.

No one is forgetting that we need to get through 2006 first.. But I think most of us are already doing everything we can possibly do for '06.

It's not like we're losing precious time with idol chat about our hopes for '08.

We are focused!!!

But there's absolutely nothing wrong with thinking about who our next president will be ---- because THIS is who we have now:

12. 2006 . . . 2008 . . . doesn't matter as long as BushCo . . .
is tabulating the votes . . . it's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes . . . and as long as it's BushCo doing the counting, our chances in 2006 and 2008 are zero . . . don't believe it? . . . look what happened with the Ohio referenda this year . . .

13. Premature, Not Stupid
When people ask President Clinton whether Hill will run for the White House in 2008, he often responds that he doesn't know but quickly adds that he encourages Hillary to focus on the election right in front of her. To paraphrase President Clinton, If you focus on the second election, you're liable to lose the first.

14. Carter and Clinton didn't have INTERNET !
That is the explosion of the beating drums and PAC websites 'n' stuff. Which I think only came to the surface during the BushCo run?

I love the fact that we can nitpick EVERYBODY now, and weed out the wannabes now ?

I much rather see DU take potshots at the GOP candidates, than eating our own :(

For instance, as of TODAY, I predict the 2008 race will be between:

Warner (D) and Huckabee (R). By virtue that they're both top five Gov's and the press loves them both!

20. Why it's stupid to keep bitching about something
people are going to keep doing anyway.

People who can walk and chew gum at the same time are perfectly able to work to support 2006 candidates, at the same time enjoying the 2008 speculation and politicking that's inevitable among people who're already backing a horse for '08--or are looking for a horse to bet on.
