Rumsfeld: "A lie moves around the world at the speed of light"
Rumsfeld: Americans Should Be Optimistic About Iraq
Monday, December 05, 2005

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Monday the American public should be optimistic about the situation in Iraq, and not judge progress based on the death toll alone.

"To be responsible, one needs to stop defining success in Iraq as the absence of terrorist attacks," Rumsfeld said in remarks at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He said Iraqis are more upbeat about their country because it is on an improved political path and on the road to democracy.

Rumsfeld also delivered a broadside against the media, saying that in the present era of the 24-hour new cycle, events in Iraq may be reported too quickly and without context, and at times with little substantiation.

"A lie moves around the world at the speed of light," he said, stressing there is a "jarring contrast between what the American people are reading and hearing about Iraq and the views of the Iraqi people."

8. What we're reading and hearing about Iraq, is that it's going great
over there.

I was having suspicions about those reports.

Thanks Rummy, for confirming that those are lies.

"...of terrorist attacks"

But.....when there are spells of quiet, they toot the horn pretty loud. :eyes:

And doesn't the Wee Cowboy Administration talk a lot about "No Terrorist Attacks Since 9/11 !!!!!!!!!" like it's some big accomplishment?

10. Aha! RumsFailed has moved into the
Information Age. The old man has finally figured out that the INTERNET is starting to make a difference.

They've made comments like this before, like "the Internet is the source of many lies", and "rumours can spread like the speed of light", and "there are many Internet web sites which do a lot of damage".

I think they've finally figured out how much power we have on web sites like these. Howard Dean was able to build a huge support network, all online. It took them by surprise.

And I think it's just dawning on them how truly dangerous it's become to them. None of these men are computer-savvy. I don't think RumsFool spends much time on the computer.

Too Bad, Rummy. You should.

11. The old asshole is stealing Churchill's bon mots
"a lie gets halfway around the world before the truth gets
its pants on."

These guys are liars, fools, mean-spirited dicks and possessed of no originality at all.

As someone whose life has benefited endlessly by lies, Rumsfeld shouldn't slag those techniques he's used so much to his benefit.

He is the epitome of personal greed, but he probably won't live long enough to truly see his deserved vilification.
