Cong Black Caucus to reject Alito based on bad Civil Rights Record |
|
Rep. Elinor Norton now announces that the CBC requested a meeting with Alito which was denied so they decided to announce their opposition to his appointment.
For fifteen years his civil rights record has show extreme right wing judgements.
OK, let's see how Bushco gets Lieberman to push THIS guy through.

1. Obama has sold out. He is arranging to meet with Alito individually... |
|
Obama's dual racial characteristics are being used by the GOP. They have cut him away from the CBC and will have Alito meet with him and then make recommendation to the Group fo 14.
Please pass this info on throughout the black community. They need to be aware of how he is being used.
If the Civil Rights Act is destroyed, regular white people are going to suffer also, because everything will be based on money and class.

2. Isn't CBC basically House members? |
|
House member have no say in the ratification of Alito, only the Senate has that duty...Why would they even ask him to come before them?

3. You are right, Toots... |

However, there are no black senators other than Obama hence no senatorial black caucus.
Just like other special interest groups, African Americans must have a think tank type group to be sure that situations and policies that impact on them have been carefully considered.
Obama cannot stand alone in this. He must take into consideration the great importance of the Civil Rights Act of 1963.
Just because his mom is a nice white person does not mean that every white person will treat this obviously black man with equality and justice. He needs to wake up and smell the cappacino.

5. Right about the Congressional black caucus... |
|
but Obama is not behaving as a member right along now, because he seems to have taken up with the DLC and the Hillary bunch of sellouts.
He is a loss to the black caucus as much as Condi Rice is a loss to them.
If he thinks that allowing the GOP to force him into meeting with Alito without other members of the caucus being present then he is allowing himself to be used. Other special interest groups get what they want, but the CBC is being treated with enormous disrespect.
Just as Kanye West said, "Bush doesn't care about black people," well the same can be said about the way members of congress treat the CBC and a lot of us are getting fed up.

6. I wish our Democratic senators |

would pay more attention to how bad Alito would be as a SOCTUS justice. There has already been far too much damage done to Civil Rights under Bush as it is; ensuring that every America is entitled to equal justice is imperative. Alito is wrong for many reasons, not just his stance on Civil Rights. He is a right-wing nut, who had no problem breaking promises to recuse himself on cases where he had an interest. When asked about certain opinions he had written, he admitted to giving them because he wanted a job. Just these things prove he will say or do anything to get what he wants. Why should we believe anything he says now?
He was wrong to refuse to meet with the CBC, even though they will not be voting on his confirmation. They are trying, though, to protect their constituents, and could certainly announce the results of any meeting, and let the American people have enough information to pressure their senators to oppose the nomination.
