Attacking "Happy Holidays" is just plain silly.
I can't believe this has any wings. It's just so silly. "Happy Holidays" is a matter of pragmatic semantics. Given the fact that multiple holidays exist at the end of the year: Christmas, Hannukah, the New Year, and Kwanzaa for many Americans, it is PRACTICAL and NECESSARY that one uses the plural form of the English word "holiday."

Hello? How absolutely stupid can a right-wing talking point get? Yo! What are you suggesting we use instead, you peddlers of Freedom Fries - Merry CHRISTMASES?

This type of reworking of English vocabulary to recapture political dialogue is, at this point, overbaked. If these very people hated political correctness in speech so much, why are they doing the same thing?

I ponder. Oh yes, I do ponder.

Believe it or not... this is my one and only post on the absurdity of it all....

Good for entertainment however.

2. LOL it might simply be that you and I have arrived at a highly logical...
easily derived refutation of this stupid talking point. It's a balloon that is so easily popped.

A two-week nap? Well... I am getting a little sleepy - NOW! ;)

4. Actually, it was brilliant
From the moment that fat fuck Falwell took to the air to FIGHT BACK against the (non-existent) war on christmas, I've been astounded at how many dem and progressive forums have taken the bait.

What should have been a non-starter has gotten massive coverage as a legitimate talking point.

Too bad the Dems don't have their own version of Karl Rove.

5. You know what's weird ...

If it weren't for DU, I would barely realize any of this shit is taking place. I don't know whether to be thankful or irritated at that.

Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. are personal, family holdiays that I have and always will celebrate the way I want. What anyone else thinks about that has never been of interest to me.

This is also my only comment on this non-issue, and I guess the reason I decided to make a comment now is because of how hard you hit the nail on the head, combined with my irritation at wading through a dozen or so other threads on this with people obsessing over it in ways that legitimize it.

6. How dare you say that there's no basis in Freedom of Religion . . .
How dare you say that there's no basis in Freedom of Religion . . . . Secularists have trammeled Christians right to worship for years now. No pray in schools. Cannot pledge allegiance to the flag "under God." What's next? Chiseling off Moses from the U.S. Supreme Court facade? Such religious persecution must stop! Our nation was founded on the bedrock of Christendom.

And, Alito makes 5 Roman Catholics on the SCOTUS bench,
4 of whom are conservatives!

7. Happy Holidays is fine
But holiday tree is just stupid. It's just ignorant of the history. Happy Hanukkah or Merry xmas is fine if I know what the person celebrates. If not then it's happy holidays.

8. I have been sitting here for the past few weeks pondering the
same thing (while not actually sitting here). Every time I started a post I thought "This is CRAZY!" and hit the exit .

11. I just realized that if you turned that blue outline of Texas
a quarter-turn counter-clockwise it would look like Babar without ears.
(my social life must be pretty dull, eh?)

9. Seems like a point of courtesy to me
Why assume everyone you meet or run into is Christian?

Oh yeah, I get it; if you aren't Christian, you don't count. So say "Merry Christmas," you fill-in-the-blank (Muslim, Jewish, etc.) heathen!

Poor persecuted Christians! :sarcasm:

(PS- I'm a Christian and think this whole thing is EMBARRASSING)
