That sheep Andrew Sullivan is back on the bandwagon...
This guy loves claiming the middle ground. Yet he would much rather be talking out of the right side of his mouth. Keep backing a liar, Andy. I will never forget the hell you gave people who actually questioned the intelligence in the run up to the war. "The dangerous fifth column" or whatever. Drink your kool-aid and keep fighting with Krauthammer like anyone cares about a pissing match between 2 conservative shills.

THANKS, MR PRESIDENT: Something remarkable has been going on these past few weeks. The president has begun to be a real war-leader. He is conceding mistakes, he is preparing people for bad news, he is leveling with the American people, he is taking questions from audiences who aren't pre-selected or rehearsed. Some of us have been begging him to do this for, er, years. Now that he is, his ratings are nudging up. The truth is: most Americans want to win in Iraq. They will back a president who is honest with them and dedicated to victory. And those of us who have been deeply critical of the war's conduct thus far are fully prepared to back the only commander-in-chief we've got, if he's honest with us, corrects mistakes, and has a sane plan for progress. With Casey and Khalilzad and Rice, I think we have the best team we have yet deployed in the war. Let's pass the McCain Amendment and put the abuse and torture issues behind us, and fight this war the way Americans have always fought: humanely but relentlessly, for a better, freer world.

2. How profoundly pathetic
that it should be considered noteworthy for the president to concede a mistake. O, the arrogance....

13. It's profoundly amazing, we have people who have a conscience
only when it's to their advantage, if tomorrow it goes out of favor, boom, take down the ban
torture signs, I am so glad we have Fitzgerald on our side.

4. So is he off his meds again, or taking new meds?
I just can't figure out what caused this incredibley inane, disconnected-from-reality blather. I mean, he's usually a worthless putz, but this is different, a sort of cheerleading insanity now. Did his check from the RNC come?

5. And Bush's modified limited hang out claims its first idiot.
Anyone who sees Bush's recent PR as a change of heart or mind, rather than saying what idiots like Sullivan want to hear, is an idiot like Sullivan.

Bush is the "I'll tell them what they want to hear" president. When the Sullivans wanted to hear about a threat, Iraq was a threat. When they wanted to hear about democracy, our goal became democracy. When they wanted to hear a president that was honest, the president lies again and pretends to change his mind. Fucking idiot.

11. Every time I see him...
on a news show, I think he looks so frightened. He looks almost like a puppet, literally. And the way he vacillates between towing the Republican party line, even though it's clearly against his own best interests (lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas), and occasionally standing up and making an independent statement, is not healthy either, because he's not consistent. Be of your own mind or quit.

I almost feel sorry for him, but then, he makes his own bed--he'd better lie in it.

:grr:

The only thing remarkable going on the past few weeks is that certain members of the opposition party have decided that they can no longer live with themselves swallowing the bullshit that this misadministration has dished for five years. The truly remarkable thing is that men and women of conscience have allowed a clique of pseudo-intellectual messianic snobs to create a catastrophe of true global proportions and render a once great country an international pariah and have allowed the United States to teeter at the very precipice of self-destruction. A real war leader huh? BULLSHIT. War leaders don't manufacture conflict for their monetary gain. War leaders don't create worldwide chaos so they can demonstrate their supposed war leader skills. At times war has been necessary evil, but still an evil nonetheless. War is an option of last resort. War is the final choice when all else has failed. We are long past the time when bullshit rhetoric like "war is good for the economy" has any value or bearing. War is good for people who profit off of war, those who bank balance is contingent on the spilling of blood. The great war leaders of our time never sought war and certainly never manufactured deadly conflict to safeguard their political credibility or advance their monetary fortunes. Lincoln was a war leader. Roosevelt was a war leader. Churchill was a war leader. george w. bush* is pretender and profiteer. The only reason bush* or his misadministration is conceding anything or admitting any mistake is that his disastrous course of events can no longer be hidden from the American people. Iraq was predicated on a vipers nest of lies. NOTHING, nothing bushco* has used as a rational for conflict in the Middle East has been true. The veneer has worn so thin, I suspect not even bush* believes his own war stories.

Victory. Victory implies that there was an expressed purpose for our conflict in Iraq. An expressed purpose with a clear objective and an identified enemy. Iraq has none of the above. In a brutally frank nutshell, Iraq has been a failure even before the first American soldiers ever arrived in the Middle East. Nothing was done right. Forget the legality of the action, which I believe the United States will feel for many years to come. Simply examining the tangibles is a list of abject failure. Poor planning. Worse execution. No follow through. No contingency scenarios. If a dyed-in-the-wool hawk like Murtha is now taking such a firm stance against this misadministration's version of Viet Nam, you know this is bad. Our vaunted superpower military is at the breaking point. We are no safer than we were four years and $350 billion dollars ago.

"put the abuse and torture issues behind us,..." Once upon a time, we were the good guys. We told the world that torture was barbaric and that if we had to fight wars, we had to do so with minimal civilian impaction. We were the Geneva Convention. We were the shining beacon of democratic humanity. We used to have our national credibility. No more. In one pResident's administration we have gone from being the champion of law and order to the schoolyard bully. We are no longer protector, we are predator. We have pulled ourselves from international rule of law and announced in no uncertain terms to all that we no longer have to follow the rules, and if you don't like it then fuck you, 'cause we're the big kid on the block.

And finally I resent the fuck out of sullivan's "it's the best we've got" bullshit. No it's not and it's painfully apparent. We're in this mess because we've been settling for what we've got since 2000. And while I'm ranting, I can't believe the world money and power crowd actually let this group of miscreants get a crack at playing Global Real-World RISK. Seriously, could they not do better than cheney, rumsfeld and rove. Talk about bad judgment. </rant>

Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 11:16 PM by TankLV
you fucking LIAR!

And you are right - we will back a President "who is honest with them" - but that train left the station LOOOOONG ago, you asswipe.

This is a war OF CHOICE BASED ON LIES - it can never be "right" or "noble" or deserving of support.

In fact, BECAUSE OF IT'S ILLEGAL BEGINNINGS, it can NEVER be supported and MUST BE RESISTED AND CONCEMNED every fucking moment that it continues to the end of time!

What "mistakes" has he "corrected"?

What PRICE has he been willing to PAY for his LIES and CRIMINALITY? NOTHING.

They are JUST WORDS, without MEANING.

That don't cut it, brian you whore.

Let's FINALLY START on punishing those who initiated the torture and finally RESOLVE TO FIND OUT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE AND PUNISH THEM! - not sweep them under the rug like YOU'VE continually tried to do!
