Quite figuratively, of course. I think it was from a veteran's perspective. A lot of older folks in the video, and young ones, too.
:woohoo:
There was a sign at the end of the video "God Bless Johnny Cash".

Helluva movie, and going to see it could show the world, and country music that "outlaws" like Cash deserve our respect. It could also show the country music establishment that there are many country music fans that are Democrats that find that giggling murderer in the White House utterly despicable.

Wesley Clark.
It seems many of the older country stars are against this war. It's the new, pre-packaged yahoos who sold pro-war "Rah! Rah!" songs as part of their profiteering act.

I didn't know that. I do listen to country music but I don't listen to the radio anymore. They just play the same songs just in different roations. So I find it boring. I have cd's I put on my ipod and stuff.

If we make it through December Everything's gonna be all right I know It's the coldest time of winter And I shiver when I see the fallin snow
If we make it through December I got plans of bein' in a warmer town come summer time Maybe even California If we make it through December we'll be fine
I got laid off down at the factory And their timings not the greatest in the world Heaven knows I been workin' hard I wanted Christmas to be right for daddy's girl Now I don't mean to hate December It's meant to be the happy time of year And why my little girl don't understand Why daddy can't afford no Christmas here
If we make it through December Everything's gonna be alright I know It's the coldest time of winter And I shiver when I see the fallin' snow
If we make it through December I got plans of bein' in a warmer town come summer time Maybe even California If we make it through December we'll be fine

13. The CMT folks are more liberal than the Nashville establishment.... |
|
Yes, most of the programming consists of the latest Nashville Stars, along with stuff like "Dukes of Hazzard" reruns.
But they'll feature artists "too old" or "too different" for "commercial" airplay. And they'll slip in something like the wonderful Johnny Cash memorial at the Ryman, or Willie Nelson visiting President Carter in Plains, Georgia.
Chet Flippo writes for them; here's a recent piece on Merle Haggard: www.cmt.com/news/articles/1511473/10132005/haggard_merle.jhtml

think of it as the corpwhorate establishment. These are the same people that have taken country away from it's roots and tried to turn it in to pop music.
The same thing to some degree has happened to the Tennessean Newspaper, they are Gannet owned and do not speak for the people of Tennessee anymore, just the corporations.

I saw the special with Nelson and Carter and it was really well done. It was basically about growing up in small towns like they did and than Nelson played his music. My dad loves Willie and I was brought up on him, Alan Jackson, Allison Krauss, Randy Travis and Elvis Presley to name a few people. The first cd I ever bought was an Elvis "Greatest Hits" cd.

Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 06:18 PM by Bushy Being Born
Charles Lindbergh used to subscribe to that label, but I guess the connotaion has changed some. Even so, there's stuff on that album I don't like. In the otherwise good song "Where's all the freedom?" he pines about how we "can't show the ten commandments anymore" and "are we really a nation under God anymore?". Even in America First there's god bless the army and god bless our liberty this and that... I'm just weary of those kind of expressions I guess. But it's still nice to hear a country song that says let's get out of Iraq!
Edit: I saw two things in the video that made me smile! A VETERANS FOR PEACE-sticker and GOD BLESS Johnny Cash sprayed on a wall at the end! :)

I have noticed Merle's gradual change over the years. This man was practically an icon of the supposed 'Silent Majority' during the Nixon years. I think that my girl Iris Dement has had his ear the past several years.
Whatever the reason for Merle speaking out, it is just awesome because it means a lot of red staters will listen.
