This is why we Dems STILL Get Kicked in the teeth (Pelosi/WP)....
Am I the only one that is not surprised why voters are confused about Democrats in Congress when it comes to Iraq?

This sort of thing really, really infuriates me and clearly is a sign to voters that Dems STILL don't know what they stand for and want to cover all points before putting what they will fight for on the line.

It also makes clear to me why the American voter is leery about Dems when it comes to national security issues.

The Democrats keep blowing opportunity after opportunity by doing stupid things like this.

All the Congressional Dems have to do is hold a frigging press conference and TELL the American voter what their beliefs and stances are - how hard is it to get up and say that as a national party it will pledge to the American people to never take the country to war on false, misleading and lied about intelligence and that it's goal is to withdraw forces as safely as possible as soon as possible. Hell, they can even point out that you never hear the Bushies accusing others in the "coalition of the willing" of cutting and running.

1. Pelosi was so close to the proper response, though...
She should have said that the fact there are various opinions is good for the party, but that we will eventually all settle on a proper exit strategy.

In other words, highlight how we don't all march in lockstep down Stupid Road, the way Republicans do, but that, after real debate on an issue, we can and will arrive at a real plan for withdrawal.

2. It is a travesty. Diverse war stances NOT something to celebrate...
This war/occupation is a crime, it is resulting in the death of civilians, it is leading us into more hell, more death, and ultimate military loss. (Don't think for a minute that the US will not, eventually, be forced to evacuate Iraq). So on such a crucial issue, Pelosi says there should be a big tent? How many people will die as a result??

Without unified opposition, this war will drag on.

In San Francisco, Pelosi's hometown, there is a unified voice against the war. First, from the citizens. Then the main opposition party (the Greens) speak unequivocally against the war. It came within 3 percentages points of winning the Mayors seat in this city. Nancy should be concerned.

The Democratic leadership should at least get its act together and oppose the war. It should make clear that H. Clinton and Lieberman only speak for themselves.
