Conyers lets loose with massive report-setting the stage for Impeachment?
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 03:52 PM by TheGunslinger
Democrats plan sharp rebuke of pre-war intelligence, Iraq war in massive new congressional report
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Democrats_plan_sharp_rebuke_of_prewar_1219.html

House Judiciary Committee Democrats, spearheaded by Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), are set to release possibly the sharpest congressional critique to date surrounding Iraq, RAW STORY has learned.

The report, titled "The Constitution in Crisis: The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retribution and Coverups in the Iraq War," is slotted to be made available to the public Tuesday. RAW STORY acquired a copy of the book’s cover and some additional information about the document today.

According to Democratic aides, the report will focus on alleged manipulation of pre-war intelligence by the White House, specifically covering such topics as the Downing Street Minutes as well as the White House position on the Geneva Conventions and international law as regards its policies toward prisoners of war. Sources say the report is slated to be published as a book.

The ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, Conyers had previously pushed for an inquiry into the Downing Street Minutes, official minutes of a 2002 meeting among British Prime Minister Tony Blair, members of British intelligence MI-6, as well as Bush administration advisers. Most notably, the minutes included a comment from British intelligence director Richard Dearlove, who was quoted in a secret meeting before the war as saying "intelligence and facts are being fixed around the policy."

Yes!

Go Rep. Conyers!

Damn, if every member of Congress had the guts and nuts that Conyers has this country (and the world) would be in a helluva lot better shape!

He's been awfully quiet of late and now I can see why. I knew he wasn't going to let the DSM die off and now he'll probably need a revised addition with an addendum for all of the new constitutional destruction that's been revealed lately.

you can't seriously htink it will lead to impeachment. it's to be buried by the MSM ASAP. the allegations won't get 2 minutes on NPR, let alone networks or Fox. NYT, page 33b.

Outrage fatigue & cynicism rule the land. no GOP committee chair who travels on small planes will let that report onto the floor.

8. Bush has created such chaos, that it's
hard to follow sometimes. For Conyers to have a compilation of events, will be a helpful
reminder.

11. Conyers For President in 2007 !! (yes, really)
(As I've said before.)

We should start an effort right here on DU and throughout the netroots to Draft John Conyers as a "Presidential" candidate right now.

The campaign platform would be impeaching/removing bushcheney and replacing them with newly elected Speaker of the House Conyers as soon as possible. The themes would be stolen elections, downing street memos, becoming torturers to the world, spying on dissenting citizens, and terrorizing the American People with threat of "mushroom clouds in 45 minuts."

Regardless of outcome, the effort itself would provide immediate benefits to our side (and damage to the neofascist election thieves) in the form of nationalizing the 2006 elections, energizing our base, and demonstrating resolve on matters of principle (imagine that).

There is nothing like a campaign, with a real leader to rally around, to engage people in political activism. We could bring in all the bloggers, Moveon, democrats.com, DFA, PDA, and others. We'd hold rallies, canvass our neighbors, write letters/emails, poll our progress, the whole nine yards.

It would be an attack against the entire DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy (including the beltway-bound Dolittle Dems).

The polls already show that a majority of the public wants him out. We could provide the vehicle by which their will could be implemented. And their country returned to them.

32. While I'm fine with that result - or any combo
as long as the American People are involved again, the point was to start a campaign now.

A real campaign with fundraising and media -- something "outside the box."

I don't think Pelosi or Boxer could manage that right now due to their current positions.

Kucinich could. Even Daschle or Gephardt (by running for the House).

Or any other Dem (heck doesn't have to be a Dem really) with the ambition and vision to see that the opportunity is there.

The hearts and minds of the party base and activists have been left orphaned by the current "leaders" among the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy. That's why it fell into Gov. Dean's lap (and bank account) in '03/'04.

To use Trippi's analogy, if anyone took the leap, there'd be millions there to catch them.

18. It is a shame
that Bush has so sullied the meaning of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, otherwise I would recommend conferring it on the Honorable John Conyers. As it stands, he is more deserving of the Congressional Medal of Honor, normally reserved for times of war. In one sense, after these latest abuses by Bush, we are fighting for the soul of freedom in America.

We are being told to surrender liberty, because our freedoms are in danger from a foreign power. Only someone of limited intelligence like Bush could fail to see the irony of that position. Surrender liberty? Never.

20. Conyers is a REAL man but it also seems as if
Dems in general have FINALLY realized they have to fight as dirty as the pubs and EVERY minute of EVERY day. I don't know if they're talking amongst themselves but they seem to be spreading the "love" around pretty well (at least the Dems with major cajones!) As soon as one issue starts to die down another one comes up. Of course with THIS administration it isn't that hard to find another issue...

31. Conyers is on the Stephanie Miller show now talking about it
Even saying the 2000 election in Florida was confirmed to be hacked

1 machine gave * 16,000 votes.

Said he has enough to Censure the President and a special Censure against Cheney for harrassing CIA analysts.

Said he went to London for corroboration on the DSM
