A former Orange County commissioner was arrested and charged with domestic abuse and battery after an alleged attack on his wife at a Winter Park home.

Local 6 News learned that an argument between former District 5 Orange County Commissioner Ted Edwards, 50, and his wife Tawni Roessler Edwards went from heated words to alleged blows, according to the report.

Police documents showed that the fight was apparently over Edwards inviting his teen son to Sunday dinner.

Tawni Edwards gave the following statement to police: "I was leaving the house getting ready in the closet and he came in shouting the 'F' word and I asked him to stop, that my kids would hear him. And he screamed louder and louder and charged at me with gritted teeth and closed fists and pushed his body and face into mine. I hit him in the face and he again charged at me and threw me across our walk-in closet into the shelves."

Edwards served as county commissioner from 1996 to 2004.

In 1999, Edwards considered a congressional run but decided to run for commissioner again.

Edwards says he considered running for open seats in Orange County or for state office, but "no other elected office appeared to be a good fit."

Just don't look for the Republican to leave the political arena for good.

"I think I have campaigns left in me," he says ...
