Cheney: wiretap program has "saved thousands of lives."
...Critics say Bush had no legal standing to authorize such wiretaps without obtaining a warrant from a court in accordance with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

Cheney said the program had "saved thousands of lives."

"It is, I'm convinced, one of the reasons we haven't been attacked in the past four years," Cheney said.

1. Just like he's convinced the insurgency is in its last throes?
Or that he's certain he'd never met John Edwards before their debate? Or that it's pretty much been confirmed that Mohammed Atta met with an al Qaeda agent in Prague?

Why does this nutcase keep speaking in such CERTAINTIES ("I'm CONVINCED" rather than "I believe") when he's been PROVEN wrong on so many occasions? Hubris ...

3. If this is true
They should go to the FISA court and prove it. Lay the facts out to the officials (Dems & Reps) whose job is oversight on the program and prove it.

4. Well, if that really is the case, Mr. Vice-President...
...then you wouldn't mind sharing some specific examples where circumventing the FISA court saved American lives, would you?

We're waiting...

7. A completely unprovable assertion
Beside, they want it both ways:

No Attacks - Bush/Cheney gets the credit
(Godforbid) there is an Attack - They'll Blame Democrats

Should the President be given credit for that?

10. to quote Edmond Black Adder
"Your track record in this area does not inspire confidence"

I mean come onnnnnnnnn. He promised we've be greeted as liberators in Iraq, he said we knew were the WMDS were, he said the insurgency was in the last throes, he was just in Iraq saying how wonderful it was to a group of very unimpressed servicemen. I wouldn't trust him to tell me the time of day.

11. But our total lack of "Preparedness" for whatever will cost us thousands
Bush-Cheney-Rove's total lack of "Preparedness" for Katrina - and Rita - and Wilma highlights our total lack of "Preparedness" for the next terrorist hit -- and there will be another one - even if NSA listens to every phone, VOIP phone, internet terminal, cell phone, satellite phone, and ham radio in the country.

I am a "Preparedness" nut job - totally obsessive compulsive. I confess- I am a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and I have been an almost full time Red Cross Volunteer, and Ham Radio operator since "semi-retiring."

12. He's pretty credible indeed....LIAR
From the MTP interview:

"We know he’s reconstituted these programs since the Gulf War. We know he’s out trying once again to produce nuclear weapons and we know that he has a long-standing relationship with various terrorist groups, including the al-Qaeda organization."

23. Maybe they prevented a Nukuler attack
by spying without a warrant that they could have otherwise got, even retroactively.

14. That's THE button for the SHEEPLE
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 04:45 PM by bush_is_wacko
I hate it when they say things like that. There is absolutely NO way to know whether or not there have even been any REAL threats to "thousands of lives."

The government would never release information regarding serious thwarted attempts on Americans in America. It would be classified information. Nonetheless, the sheeple will believe it is so because the court jester has spoken in defense of king chimpy's illegal activities.

Just what EXACTLY does it take for them to realize that we no longer have a Republic? That we have become a dictatorship? Do they REALLY have to have their own personal civil, constitutional, blah, blah, blah rights taken away from them? Do they need to SEE goose stepping in the streets? Is that really what America has been reduced to?

:argh: :nuke:

Edited for stupidity in spelling.

19. There's one way to know --
if they say it, it is almost certainly untrue.

If there was a real plot, with real terrorists and real bombs, it would have been all over the news, like the (What'd they call them?) Pokepsie (sp)Seven? Except for the little fact that none of them were terrorists.

Since 2000, my guiding principle has been to assume that anything that they say is a lie. It's worked pretty well, so far.

17. The number of lives saved isn't the issue. The question was
why did the President bypass the FISA law to obtain the information? The court order can even be obtained retroactively.

21. Because if you don't get a warrant
you don't have to tell who you are spying on. And unless you are afraid of security leaks in the NSA or with the FISA judge there's no reason not to tell, unless you are spying on someone who is obviously not a terrorist. Like, political opponants. Journalists. Peace activists. You. Me.
