Scott McClellan's (aka Puffy McMoonface) Mom is going to run for Texas Gov

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn turned her back on the Republican Party and announced Monday she will run for governor as an independent.

Strayhorn, who calls herself "One Tough Grandma," has been a harsh critic of Perry's leadership over the past couple of years. Monday's announcement all but guarantees Perry will be the Republican candidate on the November ballot.

"I am a Republican," she said. "But I know we must set partisan politics aside and do what's best for Texas. That is why I am running for governor as a Texas independent."

I wonder how this will play at the White House and at Family dinners.

I believe from sometime in the last 5 or 6 years. Actually Carole goes by ALL of her names----Carole Keeton McClellen Rylander Strayhorn (Cooger Mellencamp). Don't know if Scottie cares one way or the other since his dad was three husbands ago. Hell, his comment is going to be "no comment" regardless.

This will make the Texas elections a little more interesting... Strayhorn won't have to pour money into a face off with Perry in the primary, but she will probably pull votes from Gamage(?) thus making it easier for Perry. I don't think anyone outside of Austin really knows who she is or cares...

8. Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn - Turncoat!!!

She's the daughter of the late and well-known University of Texas law school Dean, Page Keeton. She married Scott's daddy and took his name, ran as a Democrat for Austin mayor. We backed her and she won. About the same time Ann Richards was becoming an early player at the Travis county level (that's the county in which Austin lies).

After Carole divorced McClellan, she married one of the grocery store Rylanders and became Carole Keeton Rylander. She switched to the pubs and forever entered my I HATE YOU, YOU TURNCOAT! file.

Then later she divorced him and married Strayhorn, whose name she wore when running successfully for the mid level state office she now holds, State Comptroller, which mainly collects the sales tax. A pox on her and her son.

She's running for governor against Rick Perry, Kinky Friedman, Bob Gammage and Chris Bell. I love Kinky, and Chris is a good kid, but I have to go with Gammage. He's my sentimental favorite, as one of the famous Dirty Thirty, and he's got gravitas.

I was chief of staff for a legislator in the 81 & 83 sessions, and like I said upthread, " she was always at Democrat receptions and strategy meetings." I even had her over for a couple of mixers. ( she brought her obnoxious little boy once, I can only laugh when I see him on his "job.")
