4. Two outspoken Dems who used to back Bush's fake war in Iraq. |
|
Also, Harmon made it clear on the radio the other day that Bush must go to the courts to get warrants to wiretap!

18. Oh Good, a truth teller |
|
Someone has to speak "truth-to-power" and put the common good above the me-too corporate greed.
Thanks. I'm be looking to hear what he has to say.

FOX will even that out with robust, multi-pronged Conservative commentator push. Even the cameraman will get in a talking point.

8. Well, they may not be absolutely pure but ADA ratings of 95 and 100 |
|
for Harman and Feinstein (respectively) qualifies them as "Democrats" i believe. http://www.adaction.org/ADATodayVR2004.pdfGranted, their support for the IWR still reeks big time!

9. ADA ratings don't mean shit anymore. |
|
The fact that the worst of the DLC'ers always rate so highly is proof of that. Eleanor Roosevelt must be doing cartwheels somewhere...

12. Their independent usefulness is arguable. |
|
This is not the place for a long-winded academic debate...but ADA #s do allow for comparisons of the relative purity of congressmembers against each other, at least.
Consider this --
The average rating for Dem Sens in 2004 was 89.6. Feinstein scored a perfect 100. The average rating for Dem House members in 2004 was 85. Harman scored a 95.
For perspective, Breaux was a 80. Lieberman a 75. Bishop (GA) was a 55. Ford (TN) a 75.

10. Wow! That's really useful |
|
but there must be something I'm not understanding about the methodology. Harman has the same rating as my congressman, Bacerra, who is ostensibly very liberal. And Feinstein's ranking is higher than BOxer's!

13. These index scores are typically calcuated using the most explanatory |
|
roll call votes - that is, the ones that split the chamber roughly down the middle (Note the tallies in parentheses show relatively close counts). Thus a vote against the "party line" would indicate just enough disloyalty to be significant.
It appears that Feinstein voted correctly (i.e. the preferred ADA direction) on item #19 while Boxer did not. Feinstein supported barring US companies from doing business with nations that sponsored terrorism. She got that additional (+).

19. Yup. The wacky rw talking points were rolled out en masse. |
|
Here's a rundown of the panel's consensus opinion (save Juan's minor moments of sanity) --
1. Delay and congressional corruption -- bipartisan problem and it will not be an election issue.
2. Wiretapping - another non-issue that noone cares about.
3. Alito - ABA ratings suggest easy confirmation.

Might be worth watching if you care about your civil rights and the balance of the Supreme Court. Rather important stuff I think.
