Bush Rules Out Senate Run for First Lady
The Senate may be the place for some former first ladies, but President Bush on Thursday categorically ruled out a run for office by his wife, Laura Bush. She's not interested in running for office. She's interested in literacy," Bush said during an appearance at JK Moving & Storage.

The topic came up as the president took questions from his audience after a speech on the economy. A woman asked if Mrs. Bush would ever run for Senate from the first couple's home state of Texas, and Bush responded "never" twice.

He also declined the woman's plea that he at least ask Mrs. Bush if she might be willing.

She's a great lady," the president said. "She's not interested in running for office."

6. if my hubby spoke for me like that
he'd be limping for days.

They'd better make up their minds. Either she has stature to run for Senate (and rebut Hillary) or she's a lump in the bed.

12. Damn Skippy
He is so NOT smart. Even if you only looked at it from a PR angle, he should have said, "You'll have to ask Laura about that." Then he could have gone back to the WH and told her, "Woman, you will never run for office." if he needed to feel like the Big Man.

7. Kind of unfair
Laura is not responsible for the travesty we have seen since 2000. Who knows what kind of opinions she would have if only everything in her life were not scripted since 2000.

She strikes me as a woman who is desperately trying to believe in her husband -- as there is mounting evidence that that husband has been, not only an abject failure, but also a liar.

My own two cents.

9. Laura during the 2004 elections, on John Edwards:
When asked how she'd compare Cheney to Edwards, Laura sighed and said "Oh, PLEASE..."

As always, I respect the two cents' worth of my fellow DU posters.

I'd just respect Laura a LOT more if she'd take some S.T.F.U. lessons.

SOON.
