Why do many DUer's see the overturn of Roe as an election tool and forget |
|
SCOTUS is a LIFETIME appointment? If Scalito is confirmed we will not get any of our privacy rights back within my lifetime! The only Supremes left safeguarding our rights are ancient. If Bush packs the court we are finished. The very principle of checks and balances will have been used against itself to destroy us! If the court is packed against of it doesn't really matter about anything else. That damage is forever.

It would be hard for me to justify supporting this country any longer.

We will be living in a very oppressive society.... oh the ugliness we will see from this from a psychological stand point is frightening. Crime will rise, drug addiction, unprotected sex, poverty, etc...
Like dominos, one thing will lead to another.

3. Supreme court justices can be impeached |

The SCOTUS decision of Bush v Gore is probably worthy of impeaching all who voted for it.

which is to uphold the individual & inalienable right to the property of one's own body by packing the Court with people who actually believe in freedom.

Roberts and Alito are both young men and you can bet any future Bushco nominees will be as well!

have already been negated by this administration, stolen elections along with sidestepping laws (if they spied on Americans in the way that we know of, what else have they done illegally?). A single party having all the power (either party) is a dangerous thing for democracy.

14. While I agree, in principle, |
|
it has now been proven, beyond any real argument, if that single party happens to be republican, the damage occurs much faster, more violently, and far deeper than in the opposite condition. Quite a number of times, in the last fifty years, all three branches have been democrat or left leaning and the crashing cataclysm that the current criminal conspiracy has brought down on us simply did not happen. Yes, there was a creeping social comfort zone that gave the unwary a sense if unaccountability, but what did that lead to? There was never any question of the US turning into a fascist state, a dictatorship, or some form of theocratic nationalist state. What did happen? Well, some of the comfortable congressmen began advancing themselves next month's payday through the house bank and sloppy, good ol' boy paperwork.
There is just no damn comparison!

12. Once Bush packs the S.C. we can forget about oversight or investigations |
|
The current court has already trampled on our rights with decisions such as election 2000 and preventing release of Cheney's WH energy meetings and protecting govt secrecy such as Sybil Edmonds' case. It is quite probable that special counsel investigations such as Plame leak could get stymied by the courts preventing testimony involving Executive branch wrongdoing.

17. It's a big gerrymandering scheme... |
|
A Roe V. Wade overturn would put the issue back to the states and force population expansion in red states and basically turning the bible belt into 1 big freeper factory.
...chirp chirp chirp....
What?!?!? No one likes gallows humor?
Seriously though. Not the end of the world.
Congress can still move to protect reproductive rights via legislation right?
All theoretical still at this point as a filibuster is still feasible from what I can see...
