49. For those of you who want to turn the Democratic party into Republican

We won't let you so cringe in fear when they bring out Osama to scare you into supporting the patriot act, lick Alito's balls and don't dare filibuster anyting. You can do all you want while acting like cowards but there are too many of us here that will stand and fight while you play footsy with bushco.

67. Those of us who insist on holding our party accountable....
Want to change the way things work in Washington. If you're fine with wishing, hoping and praying that your elected representatives will be kind to you and throw you a bone every once in a while, then stay where you are. But don't criticize people who are no longer satisfied to be part of the problem.

62. Amen!
Let's remember how many people voted for Kerry in the last election; nearly half of the people in this country don't like the direction Bush was/is taking us. That should have given the Dems the strength to stand up, make some noise, and represent the other half of this country that doesn't like what the Rethugs are doing to our country. There are some Dems who are standing up and doing what they can in difficult circumstances, but there are other Dems who let themselves get bullied by the Repukes and just roll over.

There are 2 Dem senators from Arkansas (Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln). They're moderates and it is speculated that they will vote for Alito. Evangelical christian groups are running ads like mad here in Arkansas to get people to put the pressure on Lincoln to vote for Alito.

78. Nearly half the people didn't bother to vote at all.
That should tell you something about how representative our candidates are. Most had to choose which brand of corporate candidate do they prefer.

Take a look at VT independant Bernie Sanders to see what happens when you talk straight with the voters. They keep sending him back to Congress instead of an R or a D. Now it looks like he'll be elected senator in a landslide.

I thought John Hagelin was a very well-spoken, intelligent candidate.

LOL - wasn't there a presidential debate that featured five or seven candidates? I believe it was the 2004 election, when Ross Perot ran for his 2nd time.

They can either do what we want, or do what they think "swing-voters" want.

Me, Sulking- no.

Me forgetting the hundreds of times the DEMs ignored the base? A "no" to that as well.

I'm not quitting the party, but unless there is a mind eraser machine, I'll be less encouraged to raise over $35,000 for them like I did in '04.

I may just spend more time with people who listen to me, like my family.

22. My Comment Was Not Meant Personally, Doctor
Please accept my apology for inexact expression.

One point, though, seems worth restating here, as a general proposition. To my understanding, a "base" is something that can be relied on utterly, as a solid support. If it needs courting and mollifying, it is not a base, but merely one group in play, like any other. People claiming to constitute the "base" of the Party ought to view with equanamity, it seems to me, whatever manouvers seem necessary to add auxiliary weight to the Party's numbers, particularly at a time when the Party is decisively out of power.

24. You are always polite- I did not take it personaly.
but I *Do* take being ignored by the Democrats personaly.

Democrats who I have worked hard for in 3 states and on the national level w/ the DNC.

I'll bet they would listen to some lobbyist who gave them $35,000. They dont even know who I am.

Apparently they listen really hard to what the media says "swing-voters" want though.

I'm not in the mood for your academics- I could barely understand what you are even saying. Filibuster and unify the base or refuse to listen to them and hope they still show support, its as simple as that.

I need to get back to work- have a great day.

You invite non-DLC asskissers to leave the party.

I suggest that if they do so, they will vote for third party candidates, as was the case in 2000.

Maybe you might want to find ways of keeping progressive in the party instead of inviting them to leave.

74. Disrupter's or debaters? You have to admit. . .
this post(contrary to the message that many continue to bemoan about party unity and what not)only adds fuel to the fire. How liberal is it to proclaim, "Love it or Leave it?" Because that's the mentality that you are displaying by posting this kind of inflammatory rhetoric.

Instead of showing people the door, why not try and understand their frustration with members of our own party. Or is there room for debate anymore? Even though my moniker points to the direction of my liberal politics, I'm still steadfastly Democratic and will remain so. If for no other reason than to stand up to crap like this.

64. The issues and challenges we must deal with
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 01:04 PM by ronnie624
in the comming decades are large in number and serious in nature. They include in no particular order:
-global warming and envioranmental degradation
-dramatic increases in human populations
-food and water shortages
-the potential for new pandemics
-decreasing energy supplies
-the rise of fudamentalist regimes with a hostility toward education
(How else are we to deal with the above problems in an atmosphere
of anti-intellectualism)
-and on and on

Re-establishing the status quo simpty will NOT do. Human civilization will not long survive it. Nothing short of revolutionary change will work IMHO.

So forgive me if I don't line up and scream *Ra! Ra! Go Dems!* on que.

66. I've been waiting for someone to post this
Because when Alito is confirmed with less than 60 votes there is going to be an ungodly amount of thrashing, self-immolation, gnashing, party bashing, and general expressions of finality of affinity with the Democratic Party.

75. Good Answer!
Here ya go:

http://www.greenparty.org

Because if this is how the majority of the people of my party think, then perhaps we should look elsewhere, or you, I and others who think alike should band together to stand up to these people.

79. I'm an independent who mostly votes for Democrats...but
if the filibuster of Alito doesn't happen, I'm sitting out this year's primary and general elections. It's too critical, and the Dems need to know what's at stake if Alito isn't stopped. Otherwise, what's the point of voting for Dems? If they don't stand up and act, why vote for them?

80. william why would ANY Democrat make it easy to leave us?
You should give them a link to he repuke party too, I mean, if you're wanting to reduce votes for the Democratic party why not send them there as well? The end result is the same... Dems lose... Especially if freepers can fragment our vote between parties that have no chance of even winning 2% of the total voters.
