America falling for the GOP Echo Chamber on Alito & Illegal Spying-AGAIN!
It seems we have seen this exact play a half dozen times from BushCo. Get a polling company to ask an ambiguous question without context and then have every single right wing asset in the corporate media structure hype the shit out of it until it is believed to be reality. I am a bit puzzled by the conflicting polls anyway. How can one poll show 52% want to impeach Bush for illegal wiretapping and another show that the majority of Americans are OK with "wiretapping"? Karl Rove said once that we are just spectators and that he and his ilk are the "actors" that "create their own reality". I think we are seeing it in spades with the Alito nomination and the illegal NSA spying being rammed through on a path lubricated by the media presenting as fact that Americans are OK with all of this based on some questionable poll. The most tragic thing about this is that so many Democratic Senators seem oblivious to Rove's methods. I would challenge the pollsters results AND I would take the opportunity of a filibuster to explain to the American people why these issues are so important. I would also use the filibuster to read "My Pet Goat" as a slap at the boy king.

1. But how do we really know the public is buying it?
Have you taken your own informal survey of coworkers or family members? What I am seeing more and more is a deep distrust not only of Bushco but of the media. What I am doing is encouraging folks to get their news from the Internet. I've been surprised how some folks without computers are still getting the facts-from CDs/DVDs downloaded and also from flyers.

2. I See the Media Spinning It This Way More
than I'm seeing regular folks buying into it. In fact a weird thing is becoming evident to co-workers of mine, and they are now wondering why the media is working overtime in trying to sell him. One worker pointed out to me and another, that they are distracting from the guy's resume.

I think he's right.

5. GOP has DEMS on defensive again-'reacting' dilutes the power
of coherent, fact based rebuttal. Dems have to STAY ON MESSAGE and be vigilant in this endeavor-even when Karl throws out buckets of bait...for us to choke on!

8. It's worse than that
These "polls" use all sorts of underhanded methodology to shape public opinion. Any graduate student in the sciences worth their salt can show you this....
