NY Times Editorial: Senate Dems Need to Filibuster
January 25th, 2006
The Ny Times has an editorial calling on Senate Democrats to FILIBUSTER. They make a compelling argument why they need to do this. I hope they listen. I understand the arguments against a filibuster, I also strongly agree with the last lines in the NY Times OP/ED:
A filibuster is a radical tool. It’s easy to see why Democrats are frightened of it. But from our perspective, there are some things far more frightening. One of them is Samuel Alito on the Supreme Court.
We’re hanging on the edge here. There is so much at stake. I listened most of the day, today as our Democratic Senators laid out their passionate arguments against Alito. This is not about partisan politics. This is about every man, woman and child in this country and the future of every liberty we hold dear.
As the Times said, “It is hard to imagine a moment when it would be more appropriate for senators to fight for a principle. Even a losing battle would draw the public’s attention to the import of this nomination.”
I know I personally can not sit back and watch this happening with out making a stand. I hope our readers will agree. There’s a Senate Phone List here, with numbers to all the Democratic Senators and the key moderate Republicans. There are also two toll free numbers - 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641. Word is that there are 8 fence-sitters on the filibuster. Give them all a nudge!
