Shades of Stalin - Bush pays to have Abramoff photo deleted
A photograpy studio which admitted to scrubbing at least one photograph of President George Bush and disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff was paid more that $140,000 by the Bush/Cheney campaign in 2004, RAW STORY has learned.

Reflection Studios president Joanne Amos told Joshua Michah Marshall of Talking Points Memo that a "business decision" led the company to remove a photograph taken in late 2003 that is believed to feature Bush and Abramoff together. According to Amos, the photograph is "not relevant."

Another blog reported that Amos donated $2,000 to President Bush in 2003 and $2,000 to the Republican National Committee in 2004.

-----

For some reason, this really reminds me of the old Soviet practice of altering photos to remove unfavorable people from official photographs.

Scary.

14. 1984 Chapter 4:
http://etext.library.adelaide.edu.au/o/orwell/george/o79n/chap4.html

"And the Records Department, after all, was itself only a single branch of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct the past but to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programmes, plays, novels—with every conceivable kind of information, instruction, or entertainment, from a statue to a slogan, from a lyric poem to a biological treatise, and from a child’s spelling-book to a Newspeak dictionary."

8. Yep
And don't forget the story of Bush and him talking about raising twins and Bush knowing the kids name and him appearing at staff level meetings. But nahh Bush doesn't know him. For whatever reason whenever I think of Bush and Abramoff I'm reminded of the Mohammad Atta story.

7. It's very interesting
If Abramoff isn't such a threat to Bush why are they going through all this trouble and paying all this money to get rid of evidence?

21. Look at the lighting and
the contrast. Notice where these change in a vertical fashion between the two. I could be wrong, but that's how it looks to me.

34. This is his opinion
Clearly it is faked. Prescott Bush has a shadow on the left side of his face. Hitler's on the right (and less pronounced). In addition, George H.W. Bush is 6'4". I can't imagine his dad was as short as Hitler. Proportionally, Hitler is just too large. He's much wider than Prescott. They were both pretty skinny. The picture has been shrunk to help hide the flaws. To my eye, the lighting on Prescott is more natural. Hitler looks like flash photography.

They've made an attempt to put a shadow behind Bush on the wall. But the shadow is to the left of the picture, while the light hitting Bush is clearly coming from the left - it would cast the shadow the other way.

As you requested, I'll also PM you.

33. This article is misleading, be careful
I read it as you read it in context of the article that the Bush/Cheney campaign according to the original WAPO article spent that amount to have that photo studio take photographs, not to have it scrubbed.
So, technically, the Bush/Cheney campaign own the photos.

original Wapo

$31 Million Spent on Bush's Campaign
President Outspent Democrats, Raised Record $131 Million
By Thomas B. Edsall and Sarah Cohen
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, January 30, 2004; Page A06

snip

The campaign has hired a number of Republican polling firms and has paid $30,000 to the Michigan firm Market Strategies; $47,000 to Public Opinion Strategies and $37,000 to American Viewpoint. Voter/Consumer Research Inc. received payments totaling $104,000.

The Bush-Cheney committee has paid $140,000 for photography by Reflections Photography of Falls Church.

Salaries at the campaign vary widely, although most of the top officials get from $3,800 to more than $4,600 in after-tax checks every two weeks. Manager Ken Mehlman gets $3,929; top finance officer Jack Oliver gets $4,213; political director Terry Nelson receives $4,684; and communications director Nicolle Devenish gets $3,800. Mary Cheney, daughter of Vice President Cheney, gets $2,776.
