Bush: "Abu Ghraib *pictures* disgraced us . . .gave enemy propaganda tool"
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 06:55 PM by bigtree
not the torture, but the pictures . . . the pictures disgraced us, Bush says.

no mention of the harm we did to the thousands imprisoned without charge or reason, much less of a notion that he cares at all about those who were the victims of the torture and humiliation.

Bush did acknowledge that most Americans can't find one thing he's done right:

Asked (in a CBS interview) why he thought the administration's policies in Iraq had seen a decline in public support, Mr Bush replied that some Americans were struggling to see progress being made.

"People saw death on the TV screens without a sense that we're making progress. That's why I started giving these speeches (on Iraq and the war on terror), my job is not only commander in chief, but educator in chief," Mr Bush said.

"And I needed to say to the people 'you bet it's tough', and the enemy is using their one weapon effectively, which is the destruction of innocent life," he said.

huh?

oh yeah, it's hard work.

Song by Nadir called "Guantanamo"

Guantanamo:
Revolutionary New Music from NADIR's Distorted Soul

The blood that is shed in my name is blood on my hands.
And the children that are crying because they'll never see daddy again...
Why can't I say that it's wrong?
Why can't I stand up and do the right thing?
If I could just find a song that I could sing if I have to go
All the Way to Guantanamo.

3. When do we ever see "death" on our TV screens?
I stopped watching TV news years ago, so could someone tell me, do they really show pictures of violence and death?

12. Not on the news...
...that would be the various TV series, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, CSI: Peoria, Real TV CSI, the various sitcoms, and on and on and on. The average child sees something like 1,000 violent deaths on TV before they turn 18. TV, it's a drug -- look at Bush at work during a press conference, a picture of your mind on that drug!

8. Non-apology apology
A non-apology apology is a statement in the apparent form of an apology that is actually nothing of the sort. Non-apology apologies are a common gambit in politics and public relations.

An example of a non-apology apology is to say "I'm sorry if you were offended by my remarks", to someone that one has offended. This not only does not admit that there was anything wrong with the remarks made, it also subtly insinuates that the person taking offence was excessively thin-skinned or irrational in taking offence in the remarks in the first place.

Because they do not admit guilt or responsibility, non-apology apologies are frequently motivated by the desire to avoid litigation.

Humorist Bruce McCall, in a 2001 New York Times piece entitled "The Perfect Non-apology Apology," defined the term as referring to "sufficiently artful double talk" to enable you to "get what you want by seeming to express regret while actually accepting no blame," and suggested some tongue-in-cheek apologies, such as

Nobody is sorrier than me that the police officer had to spend his valuable time writing out a parking ticket on my car. Though from my personal standpoint I know for a certainty that the meter had not yet expired, please accept my expression of deep regret at this unfortunate incident.

10. Hello! Wake Up George Orwell!
It's not the torture it's the pictures that are bad. It's not the domestic spying it's letting people know it's going on that's bad. NewSpeak is here! Orwell was just 22 yrs too early.

Ya know what's good though is that there WERE leaks about the domestic spying program. Wanna know why? Some people inside still have enough conscience to realize that this is WRONG and their only recourse was secret leaks. That's a good sign. I hope it becomes a trend.
