Here is an interesting number from an obscure VA Senate race |

Yesterday, there was a special election in Senate District 33 here in VA - Virginia State Senate. This district has been a Repub stronghold for decades, but both Warner and Kaine won it, and a long-time Repub state fixture ( a real guy - not a lamp or anything) was bounced out in the Kaine win as well.
The Republican candidate was a CLASSIC cut your taxes I'm a Christian man less government guy. No real local solutions. The Dem challenger focused almost exclusively on the needs of the district - traffic is the number one concern - bar none - in that part of VA. He came up with concrete solutions, and did not sugar coat how difficult it would be to attain them. He didn't say God would lessen the traffic, he didn't say lowering your taxes would lessen the traffic - he said that curbing growth would do it, and this is what we have to do to make that happen.
The Dem got 62% of the vote. The Repub got 38%.
38% - George Bush's approval number in the latest round of polling.
Coincidence? - I think not.
If we (Democrats) give the people a real option, and stand for something, we win.
