YO! Rove intends to use fear to sell wire-tapping.

I cannot shake the feeling that the bin Laden tape from late January was not legitimate, or is legitimate but its release was aptly timed for when the NSA wire-tapping became a major news story. Regardless, I believe that tape changed some views on wire-tapping. The recent polling data showing a slight increase in support for warrantless wire-tapping reflects this.

Fear. That's all Rove has left and he intends to use it in order to hold power. He literally has nothing positive to run on. Even Bush's State of the Union address received no bounce. His "genius" is quickly looking like flash-in-the-pan greatness based on nineteen terrorists killing 3500 innocent Americans four and one-half years ago. He is showing himself ultimately as a political failure.

But Rove knows creatively how to manipulate minds. He has grabbed onto the NSA story and is twisting it from a "civil liberties or else" to a "fear or else" story to damage outspoken Democrats and moderate Republicans in 2006. He believes that if people continue to be afraid that they will adhere to, and ultimately agree, with Bush's illegal actions and will vote to maintain Republican control of the House and Senate.

How can we fight one who so perniciously twists people's emotions while caring so little about the damage he causes? Rove is a malignant narcissist. A highly functional sociopath. How can we fight this type of human evil?

If God has given the rest of us any mercy, it is within the fact that narcissists like Rove tend to be predictable. Especially when his back is against the corner. Try as he might, he likely cannot overcome the ubiquitous feeling of being duped that many Americans now maintain.

Did you see Chris Matthews tear up Torie Clarke on his show a few days ago? That's how many Americans feel. Chris was genuinely angry and let her have it. Americans will likely follow suit.
