The Next President of the United States will be Seen as a Truth Teller
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 04:22 PM by radio4progressives
And will have a strong Populist message which will resonate with every single working class person in America.

Be clear on this, it won't be the current "We Can Do Better" mantra..

(can't you just hear at least 150 million people saying: "My Dead Cat Can Do Better". )

Indeed, the next president of the United States will be seen as a fierce defender of the Bill of Rights, particularly as regards to our civil liberties.

I'm not talking about paying lip service to it - I'm talking about someone who has a RECORD of FIGHTING for it.

Indeed, contrary to "Conventional Wisdom" the people of the United States will not be voting their fears of threats to our national security because by then, the American People will have realized (to some extent or another) that they have been duped all along. The only real threat to the Security of the United States, are our own Policies, and the people who make them.

The next President of the United States will not be the one that is in anyway (justifiably or not) associated with the taint of K Street, or with any other past scandals of any kind, through associates or marriage.

The next president may or may not have an honorable military record, but the people will not be looking for a military record of any kind, because the American People are Weary of Militarism and Weary of War.

The Next President of the United States will not be closely associated with a Corporatist, in fact will be speaking out against Corporate Person-hood, even if using a different vernacular or phrasing.

The next President of the United States will possess the skills to cogently speak with absolute clarity, and with the ability to drive a point home the first time around leaving nothing to be misconstrued or otherwise considered vague.

The Next President of the United States will tell the truth about the state of our nation, and what must be done about restoring our democracy and our constitution, without resorting to the usual "talking points" we've been subjected to for years if not decades.

The next president of the United States will be seen as a Truth Teller, but will not pander to Christo Fascists and won't be afraid or back away from fighting for the First Amendment and Separation of Church and State.

The next President will remind people, that Security without the protection of our civil liberties is not what our Constitution promised us, not what our founders fought and died for and what we'll never have again if we don't reclaim our Constituion now.

The people will hear this message and roundly applaud and rejoice and dance arm in arm with their neighbors in the streets... and it will be the beginning of a new era for America, because that will be the next President of the United States and it will mean the dark days will be put behind us.

7. Yes and no. When they have those 'multi-millionaire' shows of the
rap singers or of the uber-rich, Americans as whole are not being fairly represented. I like to think of those silly shows as Capitalism PR programs for our youth. On the other hand, when the victims of Katrina were shown as a part of that coverage, an important segment of America was revealed. Granted, not everyone in America is in the depths of cataclysmic despair---but our government sure is. And it showed big time.

Most Americans work long hard hours. They are tired and getting more tired. The government is not their friend, corporations are driving a hard bargain today with workers, and everybody has an opinion on how to live their lives for them.

But, and its a big but, hit their country and you have the effect of messing with a global beehive. This isn't bravada on the part of Americans, its just plain fact. $400billion a year on defense is routine in America and that kind of serious defense money is nothing to sneeze at.

14. Yes, these shows create the great fantasies, the great escape
the opium of the masses... just give 'em stuff to distract them from reality, more and more and more candy for the eyes, candy for the mind, and stuff for them to buy.

6. Kick. Recommend. And HEROES - HEROINES.
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 04:44 PM by higher class
I've been thinking a lot lately about HEROES and HEROINES. I think heroes and heroines have saved civilization. I think heroes and heroines have inspired civilizations. Our country needs either a hero or a heroine. A hero or heroine is not going to be just a talker. Your post outlines a hero or heroine path.

There are some Republicans stepping forward and taking on hero roles by going against their Party on certain very important issues. They are being vilified. They are going to make a difference - the work of a hero.

If there can be Republican heroes and heroines, Democrats can come up with one plus a team and a ton of supporters.

A ton of supporters have to get our vote back. All paper all the time in all states.

8. When You Capitalize "Populist" Like That…
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 05:31 PM by AndyTiedye
…You are obviously trying to invoke the Populists of a century ago.

While they were economically progressive, they were the opposite in every other respect.
Just like the present-day Republican party, they got their popularity by appealing to racism and every other kind of bigotry,
and wanted to obliterate the separaration of Church and State, granting their church a big measure of governmental authority.

The Populists spent a lot more ink on trying to get evolution banned from public schools then they ever did on their progressive economic programs.

Would today's "Populists" throw gays to the lions to win an increase in the minimum wage?

That is obviously not what you mean here, but the word is tainted by its history.

It is, overall, an excellent manifesto, but could we lose the word "Populist"?
"Progressive" or even "pro-labor" would better express what I think you are trying to say.

10. I think the term Populist Message Today, is Pro Labor, Pro Working Class
I don't think of it in the sense of a century ago, but what commonly resonates with most Americans today, and we all know that most Americans are the working class - and they are all extremely concerned of their families security and ability to send their kids to college and be able to have access to health care and job security - in addition to not having their fears played on by national threats based on global adventurism. (mis-adventurism) ..

I don't even think of it in terms of a century ago, where bigotry and hatred was cultivated and legally sanctioned, but instead embraces socio-economic justice and equality. To me, that is what the progressive populist message is essentially about.... others mileage may vary..

12. Then Say That. "Pro Labor" is Good
The word we are looking for is LABOR.
The workforce is getting shafted because all the jobs are being shifted overseas,
so pay has been plumeting and unions can do nothing about it.

The word "Populist" still has the stench of bigotry and fundamentalism about it.
It will always be haunted by the ghost of William Jennings Bryan.
