MARY LYON FROM THE LEFT: Dead-Eye Dick
By Mary Lyon -- World News Trust

I’m enjoying this. The man who put the “vice” in Vice President is now a shooting victim. Mainly of people all over the country, including the nice, compliant White House Press Corpse now taking lots of pot-shots at him. Poor Dick Cheney. Hunkering down in his bunker, besieged from all sides for days, and just because he shot a geezer friend on a weekend hunting trip. Two rich old white men out playing with guns, accompanied by two attractive middle-aged women not their wives. Aw c’mon, guys! With an innocent little ol’ beer at lunch. They wuz just funnin’! Nice, harmless, all-American, great-outdoors recreation with just one little “oopsie” on the side. Just drop it, okay? We’ve wasted too much time and energy on this, when we should be focusing on what the Murcunpeople want. Besides, hasn’t he suffered enough (Cheney, Not Harry Whittington)? Fox “News” balloon-head Neil Cavuto fretted openly that no one had bothered to ask how Cheney feels about all this.

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/02/15/dick-cheneys-feelings

Time to move on, isn’t it? Not on your life. Or on Whittington’s life, either, at least for the moment. No. Cheney HASN’T suffered enough. Not by a -- um -- long shot.

As this column is written, it’s six days since the shooting, and Dead-Eye Dick has only just coughed up some sort of public comments -- for the White House Propaganda Arm, the Fox “News” Channel, of course, and its lead anchor, the constipated and shamelessly compromised Brit Hume. Regardless what he says, or how he tries to talk around it, and to whom, and how much of our sympathy he tries to arouse, Cheney’s behavior up til now has told the story clearly enough, thank you very much.

Okay, fine, he’s lamented for the sympathetic Fox cameras how it was the worst day in his life. He’ll never forget the sight of his friend falling to the ground. Horrible, wasn’t it? Poor Dick. Not surprising. He’s never faced this kind of carnage before. Never realized what the contents of a firearm could do to a human face, neck, or chest, even though it appears he’s okay with what it does to creatures farther down the food chain. But, armchair warrior and stay-at-home saber-rattler that he is, he speaks softly and carries a big stick while wearing hunting garb, not his country’s military uniform. Yes, I’m sure it was a stunner, Dick. Worst day of your life. It was probably fairly wretched for your friend/good friend/acquaintance/whatever-you-call-him-this-week, too. Maybe if you’d seen what gunfire does to the human body, up close, earlier in your life, you might have a better sense of what the tens of thousands of Americans your lies have sent into harm’s way in Iraq have to endure every minute of every day that they’re stuck over there. And most of them aren’t much better armored than the hunting buddy was, whom you just sent to the ICU. Or maybe not.

5. Is this for real!! When did Cheney go to the hospital??
CAVUTO: You know Dick Cheney pretty well. What’s going through his mind?

CHRISTIE: Dick Cheney is a very nice man, a very warm individual. From the opportunity, and as I talk about it in my book Neil, the opportunity to work on his staff you get to work with him very closely and get to see what sort of person he is. He’s a very caring person. Obviously one of his friends was involved in a rather unfortunate accident this past weekend. I’m quite certain that the vice president is very concerned and you have seen the statement that was released earlier today that the vice president continues to call his friend and to check up on his condition and right after the accident the vice president went to the hospital. It’s a very warm, very caring guy. He’s doing exactly what I would expect he would be doing.

.....

That's from the first link in the OP. Cheney never went to the hospital ~ Fox News!! No wonder they fought in court for the 'right to lie' ~ which would be almost funny, except they won!!

13. Me too, it was probably on his way out of town
heading for his bunker. Imagine, shooting a hunting companion and he is taken to intensive care and you don't dash up there as soon as you get your huntin' boots off. No, I heard from a report that Armstrong stated that he later at her place fixed a drink. Had to settle his nerves no doubt. Truly Cheney is all heart, a mechanical one.

15. Yes, I've read that since ~ but Christie says he 'went to the hospital

right after the accident'. He did not, he went and had a cocktail and ate dinner. The next day, he had a 'hunter's lunch of quail' before, finally, going to the hospital around 12.00. No wonder Freepers never get anything right.

10. Amazing what leaks out.
So to speak.

I bet this particular patient has the best care on the entire planet at the moment. NOBODY wants him to die. I certainly don't, either, for that matter. I'm kind of against death-by-firearms.

12. Yes. I'm not into hunting, myself.
Target practice, yes. Clay pigeons, yes. Paper targets, yes. Old empty bottles and cans and milk jugs, yes. But something that lives... I do have discomfort about it. I'm not judging people (and there are DUers and other Good Guys who hunt), safe outlet, if they follow all the rules (which cheney doesn't waste much time doing) but it's just not for me.

Also, seems to me somebody around him might want to advise him to take up something a little less incendiary as a leisure activity - one that allows him to avoid turning himself into a fluttering red flag in front of an already angry bull. Although, it's certainly conceivable that someone around him HAS done so, and he's paid as much heed there as he does to all those other pesky laws and other pathetic little nuisances - that are only for the little people. Wonder if he's ever had an affair with Leona Helmsley?

27. Not sure. I recall something about his having a quail lunch.
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 06:21 PM by calimary
I'm not sure if that refers to the lunch one eats on the day one goes out specifically on a quail hunt, or whether it's what they shot earlier that day. And I'm not certain about the timing, either - I think they ate before they shot. Not sure of the timing.

Frankly, I would HOPE they ate it. It seems a shame to think the prey were killed just for the sheer killing of it. If that's the motivation, all the more reason why this schmuck should grab his gun and head for Iraq. If it's merely for shoot-to-kill, then get yer pompous, over-coddled, power-grabbing ass over to the warzone, dick, and HELP OUR TROOPS, for Chrissakes.

20. I still say Cheney was the victim of a Neo-con practical joke.
Somebody yelled out to him: "Dick, look out, Hillary Clinton at 6:00!" Cheney wheeled and fired before he realized it was just a joke. -- that backfired.

Those damn Clinton's always causing trouble, even when they're not even there!

Now it can be told! I knew it... I knew it...

Well, it makes sense, anyway. And even if it doesn't, we all KNOW damned well that it's EXACTLY how too many of 'em actually do feel.

ASSHOLES.
