Nat'l Guard Assoc. Tribute to GW?

Maybe I missed this discussion on DU, but in case it wasn't discussed, I thought y'all would be interested.

I ran across this editorial by Donald Kaul (always loved his writings), who used to be a reporter for "The Des Moines Register" but is retired and writes occasionally for Minuteman Media. The article was predominately about the Cheney hunting fiasco. However, there was an interesting comment at the end of the column regarding a tribute to GW by the National Guard Association.

Surely, it is a satirical accounting. If not, has the National Guard Assoc. gone mad?

Things have not been going well in the House of Bush recently---his agenda isn’t doing well in Congress, investigations keep turning up embarrassing facts, foreign elections are being won by people who hate us---but there have been some happy developments too.

For instance, the National Guard Association of the United States unveiled a life-size bronze bust of the young Lt. George Bush, memorializing his time in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. One can only hope that someday it will grace the George W. Bush Presidential Library.

It’s an important monument because it’s almost the only record we have of Mr. Bush’s Guard service, during which he went Missing In Alabama for a year and finally just stopped going to meetings.

Maybe this year on Veterans’ Day he’ll lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Deserter.

I found mention and a photo of the bust and bustee. There are also several blogs in which a lot of anger was spewed, as should be. I'm not surprised GW didn't have many comments. It's hard to talk about something you haven't experienced up close and personal.

And the best part?

On the pedestal under the bust, it says "George W. Bush, President, 2001 - ___________"

These people aren't even sure the chimpy little punk is going to step down in January 2009.

4. Definitely satirical, but the real question is

will the bust be with his mouth open and dentist tools in it, since the only records they have for W being in the Guard is his getting his dental work done, again, at taxpayers' expense, a common theme for him . . .
