Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 06:05 PM by SHRED
I don't seem to remember the RW talkingheads throwing the race card at Republican's Pombo and Barton for going strongly against the attempt, by the Chinese, to aquire Unocal?

Hypocrites.

1. I'm a racist
I have an irrational hatred of republicans. I hate the way they look, their culture, and I would never let a child of mine get married to one.

3. Hon...tell them that they would offer Pearl Harbor
to Japanese protection after the attack on December 7, 1941.

And then they would summarily put the Chinese-Americans into internment camps simply because they were too lazy to read the "conservative manual of international ethnic identification."

6. I suppose their could be some racism to this
Maybe some people oppose it out of some weird racist rationale. Maybe it's a type of racial profiling in a way. I think hardly anyone opposed to it thinks like that. The bottom line is this is a stupid deal and if Bush wasn't selling out to multinationals this deal wouldn't be happening. He's selling out national security for neo-liberalism. Not a good thing.

8. Its the same crap with the Alito deal.
The pundits out there want to attack your character and call you a racist because you disagree with them. If you were opposed to Alito for SCOTUS then clearly the only reason is because you have an intrinsic hatred of Italians, especially Italian Americans. Now if you're opposed to the port deal, it is simply because you hate arabs and you should be ashamed.

11. Or xenophobic, from the friendlier Krisoff column today.
It's almost as if Karl Rove wanted certain democrats to come out and in the most naive way possible refuse to make any distinctions between risks whatsoever.

But no way Arab terrorist lovers should own our ports. Seems simple to me.

14.  Quick clarification
Any gov't, arab or not, that supported the Taliban (any remember 9/11?), should have NO business near our country, much less own or operate vital ports. Anyone remember, you're either with us or against us? They were against us.

20. They ended their support for the Taliban right after 9/11
when the chips were down. And remember, it wasn't the Taliban who attacked New York, it was their Al Qaeda guests.

As for the UAE being untrustworthy, maybe you should ask the US Navy about that. I understand the Navy has a lot of service work done on its vessels at Dubai.

15. Not, not racist
George W. Bush has sold me two different talking points: 1)This world is so dangerous that we are not safe unless a black-ops agent is listening to your phone calls, and 2)This world is so safe that we can give control of our key entry points to a state-owned company where the people hate us and the government may have been acomplice in 9/11.
I'm not a racist. I see a major paradox in this administration's policy that I cannot reconcile. I do not think it can possibly be reconciled, but as soon as they admit that we don't need wiretaps and data-mining and Total Information Awareness to be safe from terrorism, I'll drop my objection. Until then, it may be easy to call me a racist, but it's just as easy for me to call you a hypocrit.

17. You're a racist or an opportunist only if you are a Democrat.
I know that because I listened to the liberal media this am and they were very scornful of our motivations. Thank god for the Republicans who are opposed to this on principle that can and will be abandoned as soon as Rove threatens them as he did on NSA Spying Hearings.
I remember a bit on SNL where Father Guido Sarducci posited the existence of a parralel universe that was exactly the same as ours except that people ate corn on the cob vertically rather than horizontally. Sarducci evidently had not seen the Corporate Media in the other dimension seeing black, proclaiming it white; seeing down and calling it up; seeing evil and extoling it as good.

21. I don't know but I certainly know you're an idiot if you're FOR it.
UAE launders all the Afghanistan opium for the cash needed by AlQaeda and other assorted terrorists we are supposedly fighting in our endless War on Terror.

Or is this how BushCos game works? Can't have endless war if you don't have an armed opposition.

If you don't want people who used to take vacations in afghanistan to hunt with Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban to buy our ports, then you are a racist.

25. I liked a recent quote from Elenor Clift:
"We have to quit worshiping at the god of globalization."

That's MY angle, these multi-national groups and corporations need serious, SERIOUS oversight and need to be reigned in.

26. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but........
.....I think it's a little late for that. I'm NOT saying I like it one little bit, I'm just stating what seems to be a fact at this point. What major corporation is left in this country - all we have left are services and we're pretty weak on those too. Everything - thanks to our leaders :puke: is going or already gone overseas.

The real question should be how do we bring some of our corporations back?
