Uh so what are the differences between the DNC and the DLC? |
|
I'm new to this site and I have been seeing some vocal sparring concerning these two groups. So which one is better and why?

3. This is a classic problem, it can be solved by using google. |
|
It was created in large part deliberately, when the DLC good old boy's club was created and presumed to call themselves the Democratic Leadership.
I can't get into it in a fair and balanced way. I recommend you google for yourself.

The DNC is the Democratic National Committee, the group that is supposed to run the party between conventions. It contains members from all fifty state parties and other affiliated groups. It is an official group of the Democratic Party.
The DLC is the Democratic Leadership Council, a group which seeks to influence the party... not an official party body. Depending on who you listen to, they are either the blessed legacy of Saint Bill Clinton, neocon spawn of Satan, or possibly something in between.

The DLC is a think tank and fundraising organization connected only unofficially to the Democratic Party

10. The DNC is the party. The DLC is a club that issues position papers |
|
The Democratic party operates like a republic. DNC members are chosen at the state level.
Each state decides how to choose DNC reps in their own way. This is the way it works in Florida:
Each precinct elects one man and one woman to represent the precinct at the county party level. In Florida, they are called "precinct committeemen and -women" and are elected every four years in the Democratic primary. There are also several at large positions appointed by the county chair (who is elected by the precinct people).
Each county's precinct committeepeople elect one man and one woman (called State Committeemen and -women) to represent the county at the state level. There are also at large positions appointed by the state chair (who is elected by the state committee people in a weighted vote).
The state committeepeople vote for a set of people to represent Florida at the national level -- that is, to be members of the DNC. Democratic officials at the Federal level (congressional reps and senators) are also members of the DNC.
All the DNC people vote on the party chair (Howard Dean).
