me email to the DCCC on the Illinois 6th District race.
Congressman Emmanuel:

In the last election, Christine Cegelis made the best showing any Democrat had made in the Illinois 6th in decades. She was and is very popular in the district, has a clear and solid progressive Democratic position on the issues, and is very electable. So why is the DCCC moving heaven and earth to stop her?

I could understand intervening and recruiting a right-wing prowar candidate if Christine Cegelis' candidacy had been an unqualified disaster, or if she were embroiled in scandal or something. But she went into this race with an excellent chance of victory.

If your chosen candidate is able to win the primary, it will be
difficult for her to ask Cegelis voters and workers to support her. Fine, even a conservative Democrat might be slightly better than a conservative Republican, but that choice was not necessary in this district given that you already had a strong candidate there.

Please don't do this kind of thing again. It doesn't help.

1. Hope they enjoyed the big laugh....
"So why is the DCCC moving heaven and earth to stop her?"
In other words, they're supporting another candidate, since Cegelis is a four-star disaster. She's pissed away $200,000 without a single thing to show for it, and now has just $39,000 for the primary AND general election.

"a right-wing prowar candidate"
Wow....how far out of touch with reality does somebody have to be to think this describes Tammy Duckworth?

3. looks like there should be
a federal investigation on what she did with the 200,000 dollars. she must have paid a lot of people off or something, i think pissing away 200,000 with out showing where it went is pretty serious crime...
44% in the last election is not a disaster for a democrat in the 6th disrict.
i`ll agree that tammy is not a "right wing pro war canidate" see at least we can agree on that...

4. Ah, there's a Cegelis supporter born every minute (snicker)
"44% in the last election is not a disaster for a democrat in the 6th disrict."
It's also not a big whoop. Kerry got 47%, so Cegelis underperformed the top of the ticket.

5. Out of curiosity
I wonder what the numbers were for the race prior to the one you cite.

I've got a Cong. candidate who did way worse in 04 than the race you refer to, and he waaaay underperformed Kerry on the ballot. Still, becasue a complete moron ran two times before him and was lucky to get any votes, this current candidate thinks beating that guys numbers means he did "great".

Ugh.

Anyway, I'm curious about this particular race and the players invovlved.

7. This blog says Hyde 65%, Janet Robert 35% in 2002
http://www.ourcongress.org/race/il06

However, it is probably in error, since Janet Robert seems to be a candidate in Minnesota's sixth district....

11. Right numbers, wrong name

Henry Hyde* (R) 113,185 65
Tom Berry (D) 60,729 35

Also in 2004, Obama got more than 50 % in the district.

2. Also, how about save your money for the general election
All of this money that they are raising should be used to go against Republicans, not against other democrats.

6. "Right-wing prowar candidate"?
Obviously you do not expect anyone to take you seriously. If you truly believe that then you are extremely misguided but don't let the truth get in your way.

8. If that is true, then most Democrats in Congress are
"right-wing and pro-war." Who here believes that is true?

10. Look, Duckworth isnt progressive and doesn't want the war stopped.
Therefore, my description stands and there's no point in trying to elect her. Safe and bland
doesn't work anymore.

12. Being pro-war means that you support it all the way, and consistently
Duckworth does not suppor the war. Her position on withdrawal is also no different than Dean's when he said we shouldn't pull out. Also, by labeling her a pro-war right-winger, you are turning who ever reads your letter off. They'll think you're just speaking in hyperbole.
