Michael Lerner on CSpan2 Now, discussing progressive spirituality |
|
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 04:47 PM by checks-n-balances
He's doing a great job describing what he calls "The Left Hand of God" - generosity, liberal spirit, compassion, respect for all, etc. and how the religious right has assumed "The Right Hand of God" - focusing only on the POWER of God.
Rightwingers have distorted that power, which is supposed to be used to lift up the weak, vulnerable, and downtrodden and have claimed that power for themselves or that power only to bless THEM.
A fascinating presentation, and as one who has done graduate study in theology (not right wing!), his words resonate with truth to my ears.
I hope this will be repeated on CSpan, and supposedly it'll still be on for another hour from right now.
Edit to add: I think that even listeners who consider themselves of the agnostic or even athiestic persuasion can watch & see that this is vastly different from rightwing "spirituality" and a respectful and positive approach.

2. I was in tears listening to this man on NPR last week. |
|
He made me feel as though I was no longer a lone voice in the wilderness. Having spent the last four months writing incessantly about spiritual solutions it was so affirming.
Love him and wrote to him. No response as yet but he is on the road.on a book tour.

6. It will be archived on CSPAN's site... |
|
I guess I find it a little boring because it's common sense. Treat people right. How hard can that be? I just feel like I learned all this in Sunday School. Maybe I'll perk up when he starts telling us HOW we get it through to the masses.

4. Thanks for the info ... |
|
Though, I more often than not, consider myself agnostic ... this in most ways describes my sense of spirituality/ values.
Again, thanks for the "heads up."
