14. Good thing there are so few elected CT dems.
There are far, far more unelected democratic voters, though, and we're the ones who'll decide, not Joe's friends. Connecticut residents are pissed off, and towns have actually voted to censure the man. When was the last time you saw that happen in a Senatorial race? I'm certainly not prepared to bet the farm on Ned's election, but nor would I bet that he won't win, either.

Ned Lamont has a chance, and I intend to help turn that "chance" into a "sure thing!"

Given that the Republicans have pretty much written off this race to Lieberman; if the gods are with us and Lamont does win the primary, will there be ANY credible challenger to him in the general election in November?

So Lieberman is under 50 amongst Democrats, just 11 points ahead, against a candidate no one has ever heard of. That's absolutely insane."

30. Joe is more popular among CT republicans than Dem's
A recent poll gave Gotta go Joe about 46% among Dem's. Republicans would need to cross over to vote for him in the primary. Joe is nervous and making a big deal about how liberal he is by putting pressure on the admin during the Katrina hearings.

The democratic machine will certainly support Joe, but people are pretty pissed. If Ned doesn't make any major mis-steps it could be interesting.

I heard Lamont on the Sam Seder show today, and so did about 20 other people. Let Lamont have his day in the sun, because by the time it's all over, Lamont will join the pantheon of other losers who tried to unseat Lieberman. Actually, I feel kind of sorry for him, being the sacraficial lamb, led to slaughter.

31. I was in the "Let's not waste time fighting within" camp for a while,
But Joe has made too many bad calls for me to support him. The last straw was Alito and his refusal to support the filibuster. His vote against the Alito confirmation was a meaningless gesture, and when his vote was needed he wasn't there. He is a Bush apologist for the disaster in Iraq that has needlessly killed how many people??

He votes for corporate interests above the people's interests and I see working to unseat him as important as unseating Rob Simmons, who may in fact be more liberal than Joe.

34. So there's no point in a challenge?
At the very least it will make Joe think before he votes against his constituents. CT is a fairly liberal state, with a very conservative Senator. He is already paying attention to Lamont.

Win or lose, nothing will happen if nobody steps up and challenges. And from what I know of Lamont to this point I'd much rather have him representing me than Joe.

35. this is what finally did it for me -- and I had actually pointed out that
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 09:15 AM by Douglas Carpenter
he was relatively liberal on many domestic issues:

" Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut reproached fellow Democrats for criticizing President Bush during a time of war.

"It's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be the commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril," Lieberman said."

link:

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/08/democrats.iraq/?section=cnn_latest

and this interesting comment from Sen. Lieberman while in Baghdad

"Time magazine Baghdad bureau chief Michael Ware on Morning Sedition this morning:

I and some other journalists had lunch with Senator Joe Lieberman the other day and we listened to him talking about Iraq. Either Senator Lieberman is so divorced from reality that he's completely lost the plot or he knows he's spinning a line. Because one of my colleagues turned to me in the middle of this lunch and said he's not talking about any country I've ever been to and yet he was talking about Iraq, the very country where we were sitting."

link:
http://atrios.blogspot.com/2005_11_27_atrios_archive.html#113328407009752558

Again, I myself have pointed out on numerous occasions that Sen. Lieberman has a moderately liberal voting record on many domestic issues along with his enthusiastic embrace of neoliberal economic ideology.

His comments regarding the Iraq War must reveal that he is either being disingenuous or seriously delusional. The Democratic constituency of Connecticut needs the chance to express their disapproval in the Democratic Primary; win or lose.

Sen. Lieberman's very public position on the Iraq War and those who oppose it and what appears to be an embrace of a slightly modified form of neoconservative ideology is not some insignificant wedge issue. It goes to the very core of the direction of the country. Someday America will have to decide whether it wants to continue down the path of ultra-militarism or whether it wants to maintain the social fabric of our own society and some degree of moral authority in the world. It appears that Sen. Lieberman is choosing the very wrong side of history.

I know this sounds old-fashioned and square these days. But,
for some people doing the morally right thing is still important.

25. Ned Lamont -- from his website:

http://www.nedlamont.com/contribute.html

http://www.nedlamont.com/contribute.html

from his website-link: http://www.nedlamont.com/index.html

"Ned Lamont is a family man, community volunteer, and successful businessman running in the Democratic primary for US Senate in Connecticut on August 8th. Ned has been spurred to run by his disappointment at how the Bush administration is undermining our greatest democratic traditions. While much of this frustration is rooted in his opposition to Bush's war in Iraq, Ned understands that the problems with the Bush administration cut across many issues.
Ned is running because he believes that Connecticut deserves a Senator who will stand up to the Bush administration. Ned's willingness to challenge a very well financed eighteen- year incumbent is clear proof that he will fight for what Connecticut's families need.

Ned, and his wife Annie, live in Fairfield County with their three children (Emily, Lindsay, and Teddy). Ned is a graduate of both Harvard and the Yale School of Management. Ned started his career working for a small newspaper in Vermont. He eventually entered the telecommunication business, and, after helping Cablevision start its Fairfield County operations, successfully founded his own company, Lamont Digital Systems, providing advanced telecommunications networks for college campuses with over 150,000 subscribers. The company offers an alternative to cable utilities and allows universities to customize the programming for their own campuses.

In addition to helping to raise his children and running a business, Ned has brought innovation and entrepreneurship to his community activities. He served as Selectman in his heavily Republican hometown of Greenwich and later served on the town finance committee. Ned was appointed as Chairman of the State Investment Advisory Council, which oversees the state pension funds. Ned has been very active in his community on the boards of the Land Trust, YMCA, YPO (Young President's Organization) and the Urban League. Ned serves on the Business Advisory Group at Brookings Institution, a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions, and was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Citizen's Advisory Committee/telecommunications at the United States Information Agency.

As a parent and businessman, Ned understands the importance of health care and education to our families and our economy. He will fight for universal affordable health care as a basic human right. He understands that the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit was written by lobbyists for HMOs and Drug Companies, and that our seniors deserve a benefit that works for them.

Ned knows how critically important education is to America's competitiveness. Ned co-teaches classes on entrepreneurship at Harding High School in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut. This experience has helped to shape Ned's passion to guarantee that all of our children are taught in 21st century schools that inspire them to learn.

Ned cares deeply about our civil liberties. He will fight to get the federal government out of our private lives and help put an end to illegal domestic spying.

Ned knows that 'business as usual', and empty promises without financial backing, won't solve our nation's energy problems. He will take on the powerful special interests in Washington to push for energy conservation and alternative fuels development as national priorities, instead of the Bush administration's subsidies for oil companies. He will welcome local participation in the shaping of energy policy. Ned believes that government must respect its citizens and tell them the truth."

43. It would be nice, but...
Lieberman is backed by 69% of Conneticut's republican voters. If the dems defeat Lieberman in the primaries, do you honestly think these republicans would support another democrat? I don't think so, I think we would lose another seat in the senate to the republicans. I know he's been a rubber stamp for Bush, but strategically I think it would be a bad move for the dems.

So Lieberman is under 50 amongst Democrats, just 11 points ahead, against a candidate no one has ever heard of. That's absolutely insane."

52. I notice all the "Pro Joe" posters call us haters
But I've yet to see any response to the criticisms of Lieberman presented here and on other threads.

Do you dorks have a response to , say, his voting for Scalito, besides that we are just full of hate?

At least you've given up on playing the anti-semite card. That one was truly lame

57. The defenseless people of the Middle East cannot vote or even donate
to fight the Lieberman/Bush neocon policies of death and destruction. Nor can the people of the third world vote or donate or volunteer to fight the Lieberman/Bush neoliberal ideology which is pillaging their countries' economies.

If fighting this madness is hatred, I wonder what one calls blind support?
