Feingold proposes censuring President Bush

BYE BYE BUSHIE and be sure to take your crooked party down with you!

By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITERWASHINGTON -- A liberal Democrat and potential White House contender is proposing censuring President Bush for authorizing domestic eavesdropping, saying the White House misled Americans about its legality.

"The president has broken the law and, in some way, he must be held accountable," Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., told The Associated Press in an interview.

A censure resolution, which simply would scold the president, has been used just once in U.S. history - against Andrew Jackson in 1834.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., called the proposal "a crazy political move" that would weaken the U.S. during wartime.

The five-page resolution to be introduced on Monday contends that Bush violated the law when, on his own, he set up the eavesdropping program within the National Security Agency in the months following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Bush claims that his authority as commander in chief as well as a September 2001 congressional authorization to use force in the fight against terrorism gave him the power to authorize the surveillance.

The White House had no immediate response on Sunday.

The resolution says the president "repeatedly misled the public" before the disclosure of the NSA program last December when he indicated the administration was relying on court orders to wiretap terror suspects inside the U.S.

1. We must stop the republican mantra of "We are at war"
They have used this excuse far too often and have worn it out.

It makes life too easy for them to be at war.

2. An appropriate action
I am one who is NOT in favor of impeachment even if we win both houses.

Mainly, who becomes president if we are successful? Cheney? fuck that. Impeach both? chaos?
impeaching Cheney stands a much better chance of success puts the WH on notice and would force Bush to nomiate a new VP through a democratic congress. Also, with two years left in a lame duck presidency do we really want to expend so much political energy impeaching the president? when there will be tons of issues to deal with, energy prices, health care, employment, deficit, Iraq...etc

4. I disagree, not impeaching them would be a crime in itself.
If we let these people get away with what they've done, these abuses of power and wars of agression will become a part of the way we govern our country. We can't let that happen. They have to be held accountable. If not, I don't think we'll ever be a democracy again.
