What is going on with Matthews and this straw poll? Why is it a top story?

It almost seems like the GOP plan is to talk up a fresh 2008 face and to attach that to the GOP congress before the Nov elections, and NBC heads are using Matthews to get that across.

1. For all the reasons the MSM is screwed up.

1) Discussing issues is boring and, at this point, scary as hell.

2) covering horseraces means you don't have to have an opinion yourself or know anything except who is for who.

3) You get guests.

4) As of 2005, republicans want to get past Bush as quickly as possible, and now, they want to get past the november elections. Like you said, it's a fresh face. I suspect all the congressmen just shit bricks when McCain said the straw poll should be a reaffirmation of being for Bush being president. That's EXACTLY what they wanted to NOT be the focus!
