Poll question: Could Condi get the Republican nomination if she wanted to? |
|
I don't think she could.
I just think the 'Pugs are just too racist and sexist to do that.
Talking about a fair primary.
IF she got the nomination, I think she would win in a landslide. And that would suck.

She's not married. The whole pro-family, abstinence-only, woman's-place-is-in-the-home crowd would collectively have a kitten.

pardon * if she got in office. Not sure if presidents can pardon war crime charges though.

The presidential election is more than just a popularity contest. Can you imagine the debates?!
I cannot think of a president in the past 100 years without valid credentials of running something (you do not "run" the state department; the bureaucratic structure does that) or winning at least a significant election.
Bring it on!:bounce:

I have some Republican colleagues, and Condi is not remotely popular as a prospective nominee-- basically, a few fan blogs here and there try to promote her but the rank and file are bitterly opposed. One woman told me that they don't like her stands on abortion or on racial preferences. Either one alone would be enough to take her down, but both together make her persona non grata. Plus, they're not fond of her lack of electoral experience.
Some do have issues with her personal background (unmarried and childless like that raises all kinds of raised eyebrows in the background). Even among Republicans these days, there's also irritation about her role in the Iraq War, they partly blame her for the problems though probably for different reasons, overall, than us Dems. Many conservative Jewish Republicans are also furious at her because of her supposed policy stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, though I'm honestly not quite sure what that's about.
