News video clip and full homestyle video of Dean's Oakland talk today.
The video clip from ABC7 KGO TV shows him rushing into the union hall. I heard they were almost an hour late. He sounds rather cross in the clips in this interview, but I guess that's ok. He has been saying for a year that they would use immigration as the wedge this time.

I especially like the CA Republican they interview at home, who says Howard Dean is just trying to pick a fight.

Video and summary here:

http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=local&id=4043888

Mar. 31 - BCN - "Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean said in Oakland today than an immigration reform bill in the U.S. Senate is "sensible" but a House bill is "a disgrace."

Speaking to labor, community and interfaith leaders at Alameda County Central Labor Council offices, Dean said the House immigration bill, under which being in the U.S. illegally would become a felony, is "unreasonable and unenforceable."

A Senate proposal would allow some illegal immigrants to apply for citizenship."

Also ThomK in CA at Kos has a link to his home video of the whole speech. As he said it is a little shaky, but it worth the viewing.

I made a couple of notes from this;
Dean said:
"we need to enforce the borders", we need to make them more secure, but "not vigilantes". We need to hire the appropriate Federal authorities and train them.

He said 11 million will "be rounded up and sent back." He said it was "nonsense proposed by far right wingers". He said the president has a responsibility to reign in the right wing extremists in his own party."

He made it clear that he would not stand behind any Democrat who put out "proposals like that".

The interesting part is where he told about his trip to Mexico with two congressmen (I have a write-up somewhere on this). They met with all 3 of the candidates running for president there. He said they let those 3 know that although the president has turned his back on them in Mexico, we as Democrats would not do that. I remember from an earlier account all at the meetings agreed that Mexico had a certain responsibility to stop encouraging its own people to cross the border.

1. Howard Dean is so envigorating. I wish he got more press.
The fault of illegal immigration to the U.S. lies with Mexico's leadership. They should focus on doing whatever it takes to create more opportunites & incentives for their people.

3. Here is another video clip from CA. He got good coverage there.
And all the right wing bloggers are saying he is lying about dear president. Actually he is saying that Bush needs to reign in the right wing extremists.

It is archived, but I think I can still post it. I think this was a good move.
