Looks like they may sacrifice Cheney....
and let him fall on his sword for the Plame leak.

Not surprising, since Cheney is no loss to the Republicans at this point. But if Cheney goes, then what? A replacement Vice President will be appointed, but by who?

2. It should be an interesting dance
Do the political repukes appoint someone that might be able to help the chances of repuke members of Congress in the '06 election? Or do the neocons find someone who is an idealogical purist? Or do the corporate masters simply fill in another person they know will do things their way?

10. I've been predicting this exact scenario
Cheney out-McCain in to run as WH insider for '08 for months now...hell, a year or more actually. I think I've even posted it on DU and I'm not the only one.

If there was a way to lay money on this I'd do it. I could use the extra cash.

20. It certainly is resonable......
that the Republicans would want someone in the chute for 2008. I think McCain would be a foolish choice--smarter to go with some sane, moderate Republican. But they're more likely pick McCain, given the stupidity and discord currently running the GOP.

24. "sane moderate Republican"
a contradiction in terms, perhaps?

I see McCain getting the nod too; he has that (undeserved) reputation as a "maverick" and a certain level of bipartisan support, and he is not in the immediate Bush family loop. It plays out so: Cheney takes blame, resigns. Bush selects McCain, easily confirmed. Bush is further implicated in various wrongdoings, and/or has health issues, and he too resigns. McCain ascends, and will prove incapable of cleaning up Bush Inc.'s mess and will be voted out after half a term in office, to be replaced by Democrat Mark Warner.

After all, this is his presidency. It would be delicious to see Cheney & Rove turn on each other.

17. I was thinking that same thing.....
that Cheney may have to be dragged out kicking and screaming.

If the are trying to get Cheney to resign, yes, it would be fun being a fly on the wall witnessing that cat fight.

13. I'm betting Bush would pick Rice
Another part of his 'Legacy' to have the first black woman in the #2 position. She can keep flying all over the place, and Cheney keeps in touch. Just because Cheney's not official in no way cuts him off from being a "close advisor" to Bush.

18. I doubt either could get confirmed - which is needed
I think one draw back for McCain is that he will be replaced in the Senate by a Democrat.

15. So what if he "goes"?
There's always the phone. We all know who's running the show here.
It's apparent that The Dick can be out of sight and still call the shots.

Nothing would change...except the nameplate on the VP's desk.

21. INSTEAD OF THE "BUCK STOPS HERE"
Bush needs a sign in the Oval office that says, "THE BUS STOPS HERE AND I'LL THROW YOUR ASS UNDER IT!" LOL... I'd love to see His Royal Chimpness toss Elmer Fudd under the bus! I'd throw a party!

25. Cheney would betray Bush to save himself
I believe Cheney would betray Bush in a heartbeat, and has the means to do so. Cheney and Rumsfeld are the truel cabal. I don't think Bush ever has realized how expendable he is.
