Gays begat gays to a greater extent? Really?
children of homosexuals more likely to be homosexual

http://www.earnedmedia.org/fri0426.htm

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co., April 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- A third of homosexuals’ children become homosexual. That’s the major finding from the largest study of adult children of homosexuals. Children of transsexuals were also more apt to become homosexual or transsexual. At least 23 (30%) of 77 adult children of homosexuals were homosexual and 25 (32%) heterosexual. Of 10 adults with transsexual parents, at least one became transsexual and another homosexual.

*snip*

at first, I thought this was some kind of reputable unbiased source! But then, I got the bottom of ther article.

"Cameron is chairman of the Family Research Institute, a Colorado Springs, CO think-tank. The study is published on-line in the Journal of Biosocial Science 2006;38:413-418, sponsored by Cambridge University Press."

Pheew! Dodged that landmine. I was almost certain a real scientist without an agenda might have actually wasted time on this one. Thank goodness the scientists paid for by the FRI are on the ball!

Oh dear, you should see the flap this is creating at HANNITY.COM ( NO REALLY, YOU SHOULD!)

I especially like the little freeper asshole OP's non-response to the question about peer review.

1. In order for them to perform the research they would actually
have to interview gays.....which they wouldn't do...
then they would have to interview the children....which they wouldn't do...

Then to actually have a true study...they would have to interview heterosexual parents to see how many had gay children.....

They are fucking idiots....They waste so much money on shit like this they could actually be helping the poor people in their communities....oh what the hell am I talking about? They are Neocons...

10. Awww. they aren't really fucking idiots
If they spent a little more time fucking, they'd be busier, and happier, and wouldn't be doing idiotic things like scrawling out their prejudiced theories and passing them off as junk research!!!!

3. I actually wouldn't be surprised if such children were more likely...
... to be gay, although I certainly don't trust a study sponsored by Family Research Institute. Most research seems to indicate that homosexuality is a combination of a biological predisposition (either genes or hormonal) and environmental factors. So I think it's possible that gay parents could end up raising more gay children than average. Why this would even matter, I have no idea. I mean, even if more children of gay parents turn out to be gay, who cares?

4. openness to accepting their orientation is probably a bigger factor
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 01:05 PM by unblock
i'd bet gay children of straight parents are more likely to lie and supress their orientation than any other combination.

another factor is selection falacy, which is that gay children of straight parents are probably also more likely to refuse to participate or, in fact, to have already committed suicide.

7. I would have to agree with your assessment. It is probably much
easier for a gay child of a gay parent to be open and accepting of their sexual orientation. When I think of the gay and lesbian parents I have known, I don't think their children really have a higher rate of same sex orientation than the children of straight parents. No scientific study here, just personal observation.

a debate...better than freepland where there is all just RW onesided BS.

What, afraid to see what they think? I think it is paramount to preparing a strong argument myself, but to each his own.

Personally, I think attacking a fellow DU'er for looking at RW sites is pretty pathetic, but what do I know. And what do I "deserve to get?"

on edit: less anger

9. I love this quote:
I recall a case where a grandmother who wished to take custody of her grandaughter whose mother (her daughter) was a lesbian based on the assumption her daughter was an unfit mother and the grandaughter would be likely not to grow up to be "normal" (heterosexual).
Statistics were produced to to indicate that the sexual orientation of the parents was not a signifigant influence on the orientation of the children.
Whether the statistics or study was valid the point was made in court that the grandmother had already raised ONE lesbian.

11. The "largest study" has only 77 subjects! That tells you something.
Although, even if it were good research, what would be surprising about a result that showed that gays would be more likely to have gay children? Since there seems to be so much biology involved, what else would be expected?

Wow, what did this study take, like, 15 minutes?
