Top Ten Democratic Values. Plez help me update this. |
|
1. Uphold the Constitution as amended. 2. Support the right and obligation to dissent. 3. Ensure that our government is free of undue influence by special interests. 4. Build an economic system that will benefit ALL citizens. 5. Support freedom of access to information. Ensure a free internet and press. 6. Support state's rights. 7. Ensure a free and fair election system. 8. Support the freedom to choose, freedom from undue government control. 9. Provide environmental protection for the benefit of all. 10.Support military actions only as needed to defend democracy and freedom but not to be used as an imperialistic tool.

use to be a buzzword that discribed how state's would suppress the rights of black citizens. But with * out of control it looks like strong state governments could help save the constituion.

4. Agree completely. This issue should fall under a larger issue. |
|
But i am having a hard time coming up with something. Maybe "providing a decent level of safety, health care and jobs." ??? Thanks for the help.

5. My favorite Democratic value |
|
is the very idea that we are always asking ourselves this. An individual or collective that seeks to constantly look inward, refine, challenge is proof of affinity, courage, honesty. Even though the right, or the media, or even some within our party suggest that 'we' don't have a clear message or set of values - throughout this difficult time, our ability and desire to even ask ourselves shows the very best of ourselves. Truly, this searching, inquiring quality is what makes us Democratic, progressive, and loving. Our perpetual soul-searching gives us the greatest and kindest potential for our nation.

6. To me, those are "issues". |
|
Those are pretty specific issues that a candidate can support (or not). On the other hand, "values" might look more like this:
1. Hope 2. Community 3. Compassion 4. Responsibility 5. Equality 6. Opportunity 7. Fulfillment 8. Cooperation 9. Family 10. Trust
These are values which progressives can draw distinct differences between themselves and conservatives. Candidates can pick specific issues and talk about those issues in terms of these values. Free and fair elections are necessary in order to ensure EQUALITY and OPPORTUNITY for all.
