Kerry 'Troubled' by Hayden Nomination
http://news.yahoo.com/fc/world/espionage_and_intelligence

NASHUA, N.H. - Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president in 2004 and a possible contender in 2008, told a firefighters' union Monday that he had "serious reservations" about the nomination of Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden to head the CIA. "I'm very troubled by the nomination because he is one of the main supporters representing Donald Rumsfeld who helped to put in place the programs of spying on Americans and has been one of the biggest defenders of it," Kerry said.

Just kind of nice to see the AP quoting a Dem and having Yahoo pick it up. It's still my view that Dems in the media giving an alternative view of things can only help us, even if we're not always treated fairly by the media.

1. As well he should!
Considering Kerry's current track record of opposing Bush's infringements on our liberties, I expect John Kerry to once again rise to the occasion and oppose another dangerous nominee.

2. So far we have Feingold and Kerry lining up against - any other senators
make a statement today and question Hayden's appointment?

4. Feinstein said it was a fine appointment - asshat
She also pilloried the CIA for bad intelligence. Who's side is that biotch on anyway?

5. McCain the "maverick" too
But oddly, Roberts of the Intelligence Committee was making negative noises about the nomination. And some other unnamed Repubs, said the NYT.

6. Roberts is slighted - he had covered up enough for BushInc to get the nod
and now he is pissed.

7. Republicans also have an eye on 2006.
Bush is starting to quack quite loudly, esp. with his numbers in the toilet. And there does seem to be those who, while they're not worried about the wire tapping, they are worried about the Pentagon snatching up any more power from the CIA. So it's the fact that he's a military man that's bothering some.

3. Bush's appointment of Hayden is one more arrogant power play.
Hayden deserves rejection now that it's too late for Bush to pass him up for this nomination.

Good for Feingold an Kerry to publicly reject Bush's latest inappropriate appointment.

8. More...
“We passed the law that gave them all the ability to protect America, which I obviously want to do, but to protect America and also protect the constitution,” Kerry told reporters after a formal speech to the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire.

“We gave them a court that they could go to on the shortest notice necessary. If they need to fix (the law), we’ll help them fix it, but we want to do it in a way that honors America’s respect for our constitution,” he said.
