53. Clyburn predicted an Edwards win...
...on Crossfire today, I think.

So I guess he knows what he's talking about, even if he couldn't win it for Kerry. He probably made a lot of phone calls and people told him they were voting for Edwards.

60. it bugged me to read in the W. Post about how long Clyburn
kept stringing candidates along (including Edwards' numerous attempts to get his endorsement), while making fun of their entreaties. It appeared that he really enjoyed having them court him, even while he ridiculed them for doing so. I don't know much about him, but it was not a pretty picture. I don't know whether this was unfair media spin. But I am glad it didn't keep Edwards from winning.

People talking about it on CNN...we had a poll on DU, before Clark was even on the map, and Edwards has always been the most popular among minorites, followed by Kucinich.

in OK they nearly pulled it off, and won in SC and got delegates in to my knowledge at least two other states. You done well tonight Edwards people, and you and your guy should be proud. I like John, hes a good guy with a nice message that resonates with the everyday citizen. He also is a fellow southerner :D who speaks the language :D. I love how he is willing to talk about poverty which truly is a problem in this country.

I see Edwards taking away votes from Dean in Virginia. I see Dean faltering in Michigan and perhaps winning or coming close in Washington.

62. Delegates - around 30 for JRE, 20 for JFK
looks like with these percentages, applying the fifteen percent rule:

Edwards - 45% of the vote --> 61% of viable votes --> 33 delegates
Kerry - 29% of the vote --> 39% of viable votes --> 22 delegates

78. Great News! Keep up the good work!
It is so important that no one drops out of this primary season, until the Convention. The more candidates which remain in, the more the debates will be covered, the more the media will cover each primary election in each state and it is working. We are getting our message across to most Americans! The Republican Primary in NH, 15% of them did NOT vote for Bush. The majority of them wrote in one of our Democratic candidates names. This is the good news! Support all of your opponents supporters to vote their choice and keep this process going until the Convention! For the good of America!

The media is calling for candidates to drop out. It is expensive for them to cover all of this. But, this is free advertising for our party! If it is only one person, we won't be getting this coverage and Bush will get more of it.

Remember that every delegate which we get, means we have some input into the party platform and the choice for Vice President.

Tell all of your friends and your opponents to keep everyone in!

79. The Victory Speech was remarkable!
His cadence was perfect, his tone perfect, his subject matter moving. Had he spoke longer, tv viewers would have stopped looking.

Could not have done a better job. I am HIGHLY IMPRESSED

It looks like a three-way tie for 2nd in Deleward. But Edwards looks like he's coming in second everywhere but the state he won big. This is good news. He needs to campaign big in California. To win California, he'll need to reverse himself on Yucca.

104. Question for Edwards supporters, how did he do it?
I'm amazed at this guy who got damn near no attention by the media and didn't seem financially sound in the early stages. Yet he's shocked everybody and pulled up to second in the race? I think Edwards' comeback is really more astonishing than even John Kerry's leap to the front over Dean.

111. my opinions
He has many assets needed to be a front runner but was not taken seriously by the press and consequently by the public. Once he got some attention in Iowa, those assets could shine.

He knew he had to have a strong platform so he developed a great one & put it at his website and made booklets to take to his stump speeches. He knows most people are put to sleep by detailed discussion of policy (sad but true) so rather than attempt to give them all his details, he keeps his message simple, and gives details during Q&A, or refers people to his booklets.

He knew Iowa would be critical so he gambled and spent a LOT of time there. When Dean and Gephardt beat each other up, he was charming people one-on-one. It gave him a better showing than he would have gotten in NH.

Now he's capitalized on that in SC and maybe elsewhere. Can he keep it going? If he can it will overcome the "he's not electable" whine.

109. If Oklahoma holds, Edwards will have several days of media
attention, which is worth tens of thousands of votes or much more. This is beginning now to remind me of the primary season on 1992. But my question is, would that be enough to loosen the Dem establishment's committment to Kerry?

It was sweet I tell you it was some of that good old Southern charm with a sharp mind :spank: u :spank:U I really do like that about him! By his showing in SC and OK! ANY Democrat winning in '04 would carry Iowa and New Hampshire. But to be sure of carrying swing states, our guy has gotta appeal to people in states like OK and SC where we probably don't even stand a chance of winning.

127. I decided last night
to vote for Edwards. It appears most of the late deciders here (SC) did, too. He won going away.

His strong showing in OK and his other clear seconds should help get the donations flowing again.

I noticed tonight that Kerry only won where the contests weren't intense. Where he was seriously challenged, he lost.

I think this race is wide open again. Never mind the media. They said Dean was unstoppable less than a month ago. Then Kerry became unstoppable. With them, it's just the flavor of the week.

I finally came around, although I had things I liked and also reservations about each of the candidates. My most important issue is winning in November. I searched my heart, and asked myself, which guy makes me WANT to vote for him?

The tiebreaker was Edwards' ad from Iowa. It was the kind of positive and uplifting message that I think Democrats must offer the nation, if we want to win.

If Dean should take Washington state on Saturday, and John wins Virginia and Tennessee next week, the conventional wisdom will be once again proven long on convention and short on wisdom.

The media question will then be, "Is Edwards just a regional candidate?" I think the bounce from the wins will help him emerge as the clear alternative as the primaries progress, despite the media spin that it's over.

129. A good night and the game is still on
Lost in the media sportscasting blitz full of misinterpretations and mis-characterizations was the fact that no knockout sweep had occurred, that the next states do matter, that personal campaign concentration does count against other factors. Edwards message and charisma are overwhelming strengths if things loosen up the preconceptions even more.

It was always going to be this hard though, weathering the early rounds where the rabbits( a track and field term) and the favorites start to leave openings for a newcomer who won't get down into the negative and proves how he could sweep the nation and lead from the bully pulpit. If he can prove victorious against the fine and formidable candidates left in the race he will have proven himself very well. And it will be a crushing victory come November.

There has been an attempt to make our challenge into one stemming from wild fear and anger. Edwards' candidacy alone proves our party is far greater than that, and a repudiation of the wasted, backward four years of death and fear that is a war against a humane future.

A great accomplishment. I hope we get to make a choice in New York because it has yet to dawn on people that they have an exciting choice in Edwards. He is still the overlooked candidate or he would be in the lead here.
