What do you think of a Gore-Dean ticket in 2008?
Howard Dean cannot run for president in 2008 because of his commitment to the DNC but his IS eligible to be selected to the presidential ticket as a veep.

34. Sorry for the bad language
But I'm fucking tired of hearing about the "electability" issue. Kerry was supposed to be more electable than everyone else and see where that got us.

The way things are going we could dig up the rotting body of McGovern, pair him off with Dukakis and still would win in 2008.

I temporarily lost my mind. Of course, McGovern is alive and I REVERE the man. I went for the snarky answer and totally blew it. My apologies.

worse candidates that the dems have ever put out there. He might have been a litter better than Dukakis. I'm not saying Kerry wouldn't have made a good President but his campaign sucked. Welcome to DU! :hi:

... the nation made a big mistake, in both 2000 and 2004 (or, if you so choose, it makes the point that both elections were stolen).

11. Dean is Everything Lieberman Was Not
The VP candidate has to be a good hatchet man. Dean is a good one. But he can also articulate a set of positive principles and positions. His town hall speech is beautiful.

Gore and Dean would be my two top choices. I actually think they would make a good team.

15. Too cute by half...Dean would righfully be criticized...plus
I personally think he is too valuable where he is. Ocassional verbal gaffes aside, his plan for the future success of the Democratic Party is visionary....

He see very clearly that we can no longer cede ANY segment of society, either geographically or philosophically to the right wing. So while it seems a fools errand to court fundamentalists, you have to remember that those people have only been hearing one side, because we left the playing field. Jimmy Carter took a MAJORITY of the evangelcial vote in 1976. Dean realizes that we need to be in there, no matter how hopeless it seems with the Democratic message!

24. I agree 25%!

He is more valuable where he is for the reasons you state. But I disagree that the notion of Dean as vice-president is "cute", that there would be any rightful reason for criticizing Dean for accepting the VP nomination two months before his term as chairman of the DNC expires, or with your parroting rightwing insults.

Sometimes I believe Hillary's biggest problem is how quickly her supporters are to piss off everyone else. Okay, not really. The Goldwater Girl has a LOT bigger problems than that.

32. He's a straight talker
He doesn't convene a focus group to find out what he should say first. Of the hundreds of speeches he gives every year, the media always hammers him for a few gaffes. And when he's wrong he admits it. Veeps are chosen to round out the ticket. Dean will fire up the base.

36. Take a quick look at the news the last wto days...
Dean, by his own admission, committed a verbal gaffe...

I am not a Dean enemy...as I think I was pretty clear that I supported him. Not everyone is perfect and he does have the ocassional problem of speaking before a thought is completely formed in his mind (or so it seems). Not a fatal flaw, but one he should work on.

21. I don't think so
Aside from the fact that I think Clark would be great at any job he sets his mind to, including the vice presidency, I really see a need for the VP to have a legislative background. Any president is going to have to focus on foreign policy for the foreseeable future to get us out of the mess Bush has put us in. A vice president who can push the Dem agenda, especially on Domestics, through Congress is what will be needed, IMO. A former Rep or Senator knows just how to get it done. So, no matter who the nominee is eventually, I would hope Clark's talents and experience would be put to a different use. I felt the very same way in 2004, and even more strongly for 2008. There's too much critical work to be done not to use people in the most effective and efficient ways possible.

Gore should've been president in 2000 but got screwed by the Supreme Court and Dean would've been president if only he could've gotten through the primaries.

Dean would've trounced the imbecile, Bush, in a general election.

see the pressure trying to get him to change his strategy. A person with less support, gravitas and confidence would have trouble standing up to the Democratic Congressional leadership trying to change the strategy back to what we've done for decades which was disastrous for the Party.

There are a ton of good options for VP with Gore - Clark, Obama, Schweitzer, etc.

edit to add - Dean would be a great person to tap to head up creating and transferring to a Universal Health Care system for the US. because of his experience as a Governor and Doctor.

They are both competent, honest, open, and have an ability to relate to ordinary people that candidates like H Clinton and Kerry don't seem to have mastered.

Not that running for office again isn't attractive, but he's doing important work now and the Democratic Party desperately needs him even though they are fighting him every step of the way. Kinda like potty-training a resistant 2-year-old. Gore has an excellent VP pool to choose from.

to a poll posted here yesterday! And he's great at campaigning and Elizabeth is fantastic and he's from a red state and no he didn't lose his state, and neither did Gore!

They would compliment each other so well! I really really really wanted Kerry, but have since decided that Edwards did OUTSHINE him and I think Elizabeth is WONDERFUL on the stump! She's so very warm and intelligent. Can't you just see her and Tipper together???
