Russert says Dems accountable for Iraq's missing WMDs
Simply amazing.

This is from an interview Russert gave to Women's Wear Daily magazine:

http://www.wwd.com/search/article/106320?page=1

WWD: After the 2001 terrorist attacks, Dick Cheney's first interview was with "Meet the Press." President Bush's first Sunday morning interview was with you, right before his reelection. Has it gotten harder for Washington's toughest interlocutor to book members of the Bush administration as the war drags on?

T.R.: There is no doubt that the frequency by which Bush administration officials have chosen to give interviews has declined dramatically as the war becomes more and more controversial. The vice president has not been on in more than two years. Rumsfeld hasn't been on in six months.

WWD: As a journalist, do you feel a responsibility to bend in the opposite direction three years after the invasion of Iraq? Is it harder to take what the Republicans say at face value?

T.R.: Well, in terms of , it's important that everybody who said there were WMD explain themselves. Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and John Kerry all said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and chemical, biological weapons and was working on a nuclear program. And what's been lacking is a hardheaded, bipartisan approach. Everybody has an obligation to step up here and acknowledge mistakes.

1. Does Timmeh even pretend to be a "Journalist" any more?
Does anyone consider him as such?

Maybe the Prez should explain first, Timmy. And maybe you should explain why journalists like you believed Bush too, Timmy.

6. Operating from OLD intel and why they put WEAPONS INSPECTIONS in the IWR
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:41 PM by blm
What TIMMY won't say is that IT DIDN'T MATTER WHAT OLD INTEL anyone was operating from - the ONLY intel that mattered was the CURRENT intel that Bush was being given from weapons inspectors and intel people ON THE GROUND IN IRAQ in January 2003 - ALL other intel was INOPERABLE the moment weapons inspectors started reporting back with the facts.

14. You must be referring to the weapons inspectors that had to
leave Iraq before they had completed their inspections so Bush could start dropping bombs. Of course, he couldn't risk that the truth come out that Saddam didn't have the stockpiles of WMD's and that the sanctions had apparently been working.

11. He seems unable to tell the difference from the
Democrats saying that it was possible (or even probable) that Saddam had WMD. I haven't read all of the Clintons' statements, but I know that all of Kerry's were prefaced by something that indicated that it was less than certainty and a reason why it was prudent to get the inspectors in. Kerry didn't have his own intelligence agency.

13. And they DID say it! But the difference is........
....between Bill, Hill, John and Stupid, there was only ONE that sent troops in. Only ONE that cost over 2400 American lives so far. Only ONE that after the greatest attack on the American mainland in history, ignored those who did it, and went after the wrong guy, for the wrong reasons, at the wrong time, with the wrong leadership, with the wrong plan, and with no idea what he was going to do after he broke the entire occupied country!

They ALL found out at the same time that there were no WMD. Only ONE had anything to answer for because of it!!

17. And only ONE who made the decision after weapons inspectors were reporting
back CURRENT INTEL from ON THE GROUND In IRAQ for two months - and he decided to invade AFTER the ACCURATE INTEL was proving there was no cause.

Timmy knows this but WON'T say it, because he's in too deep with the BFEE.

16. Has he been accountable?

.....WWD: Do you see that happening?

T.R.: No. There was resistance to the Sept. 11 commission, there was resistance to having an investigation into what went wrong with the weapons of mass destruction and lately it's been happening with Katrina.

WWD: The question of accountability and honesty has been personal for you. Last year, you played an important role in the Valerie Plame leak investigation. Cheney's former chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, told Patrick Fitzgerald he had learned of Plame's identity through you, which you said was not true. The New York Times said, "If the charges in the indictment are true, it is by no means clear why Mr. Libby would have told investigators and the grand jury in March of last year that Mr. Russert was his source, except that he might have believed that Mr. Russert and the other journalists involved would not testify." Does this seem like the right theory to you?

T.R.: I don't know. I haven't discussed it with Mr. Libby. All I know is what Patrick Fitzgerald has laid out, and that Mr. Libby had at least six or seven conversations with journalists before he talked to me. And I have said repeatedly, he'd called me to complain about something he saw on cable TV. I don't know what he was thinking or why he said what he said. But it doesn't add up. And I'll do what I have to do. The great thing about telling the truth is that you only have to tell the same story. You don't have to remember anything else.
