If I see ONE MORE black chevvy Suburban with blacked out windows
I may just sit where I see it and cry.

I had bidniss in DC this morning.

As I often do.

And as I often do, I see lots of black Suburbans with blacked out windows. So blacked out they'd never pass any state inspection *I* know of.

They all have lights in the grills.

It struck me today.

The Iraqis have Humvees.

We have Suburbans.

And on the National Mall. Cammo-painted trailers. With extended sniffer masts. Chained to light poles.

There's no doubt that missile batteries are parked there too, just out of sight.

DC

The National Capitol

Cherry Blossoms and class trips.

Lincoln Memorial

Smithsonian - American History and Air and Space

Washington Monument - our beloved national phallic symbol.

And

Black

Chevrolet

Suburbans

3. These are your tax dollars and mine filling these tanks
Cuz the Suburbans I'm talking about are the ones in government service ...... by the secret service and every other 'security' detail in DC.

You see them cruising. You see them parked. You see them surrounding buildings where some guy is giving a speech. You see them all over. Each with two clean cut earnest young men with short hair and nice ties and dark suits and ear buds inside.

Our nation's Capitol looks like an armed camp.

Little better than Baghdad

5. Was there two years ago--the WH was on lockdown
Tarp wrapped around the fence, hills of dirt piled high under the guise of constructing a "mall" (moat is more like it)...security crawling everywhere replete with guys driving around then in White trucks in the manner you describe. It's like our nation's has been home invaded by thugs.

I remember visiting DC many times before then and the White House was peaceful and calm, a few guards stood at the little guardhouse at the driveway.

The change is startling and disheartening. To see it, drives home the despair that we know of and talk of here all the time.

14. Inside every gubmint building you now see armed guards and
metal detectors. And the guards are no longer just at the doors. They're walking the halls now. Holstered side arms and ear buds. Suspicious looks for all who pass. Eyes roaming chests - male and female - looking for badges. Everyone now has a neck strap with a cutsie saying on it to hold their badges, saving the suit lapel from badge clip damage. "Escort Required" posted on the men's room door. Closed circuit teevees. Sweeping of corridors by remote operated cameras. All recorded, no doubt. For posterity?

Paranoia and suspicions.

Trust no one.

Intimidate.

Security.

Sweet security.

Why do I feel less safe?

8. Republicans are cowards.
Without their paid guards - paid for by us! - protecting them from the Big Bag Terrorists, the Republicans would wet their beds every night.

Those pissant cowardly motherfuckers! I grew up - as did most of us - in a world where we were certain that the Soviets could nuke us all at any minute. And life went on nevertheless But these fucking children in Washington are scared of some goddamned religious nutbags with boxcutters!

Cowards, the lot of them. They deserve nothing from us but utter contempt.

And if they're putting out those guards to protect themselves from the American people, they deserve nothing from us but lifetime sentences in dank, dark jails.

12. I'm delighted that the worst thing the last time I was there
were "Get out of town, Tricky Dick!" signs in some shop windows. As paranoid as Dick was, he was nowhere near this bunch.

I hope their paranoia is its own reward and they self destruct soon. We can't take much more of them.

13. Paranoia
I read somewhere - maybe here? - that Dick The Fucking VICE PRESIDENT of these United
States Cheney varies his route to the White House each day. Isn't that what corporate bigwigs in third world countries they're currenly raping do? Isn't that what mafia dons in the throes of a turf war do?

I really, really really want my country back.
