A 16 year old's sacrifice for the earth... I'm so proud... |
|
After hearing the Chimp say he won't see Al Gore's new movie, I had to share this with ya'll...
I told my 16 year old daughter about the movie last night and how big of a threat this is to the human race. Instead of the usual "Ok Ma, I'm busy right now", I got a wide-eyed look and questions galore. Such as, "Do you think this will effect my children or my grandchildren" (translation, "how long do we have"... LOL), and "Tell me more about the glaciers in Africa and what's happening"...
I explained it to her as best as I could and she expressed horror over her daily usage of hairspray contributing to this. I told her we would go see the movie together but I think our main problem is the fuel and such not really aerosol cans but this morning, low and behold, four half-used cans of hairspray in the trash. For a 16 year old, that is a HUGE sacrifice and I'm really proud of her right now...
Talk to your kids about Global Warming... They might surprise you and actually care...

I will never understand those that fail to see what we are doing to this beautiful planet.

5. Thank you and you're right... |
|
We should be talking about this to our kids, right along with the "Don't talk to strangers" and "Your body is your own" type of talks... If we start them early, who knows what great things can be accomplished in a few decades?

Oh, and thank your daughter for me. She seems to be a very bright young lady, with a new hair do!
Peace!

3. Thanks so much, I will tell her and she will say... |
|
... "OMG Mom, you're not talking about me to perfect strangers on the Internet, are you...?" Off course darling, that's what Moms do best, brag about their kids...
Thanks again... :)

4. Maybe you could take a couple of her friends along too? |
|
What Gore has asked people to do is both see the movie AND get the word out. Your daughter's response is great. She tells her friends, they see the movie and tell their parents, who see the movie. Actually, what a meaningful family film this is.

6. Great job with your daughter NJ_Lib!! |
|
....and living here in Jersey, we need to pay more attention, or at least as much as people lining in NYC or LA.
My daughters are 25 and 30, and more and more I'm seeing them paying attention, getting pissed off, then doing something about it. It makes me feel good to know that they are FINALLY listening to their Dad and I.

You got a great daughter there.
Best part of your post..... not what she did but that she's asking questions and looking for answers. That's brilliant.
Khash.

9. Hoping to see it this coming weekend |
|
and my 16year old is coming with me too. His social studies teacher is giving extra credit to students who see it and write a summary. They've been discussing it in class for a while.

10. Wonderful! I have older daughter's & we've found that non-aerosol works |
|
just as well. B-) Every little thing we can do will help and it's great that she gets it... of course it helps to have a Mom (or Dad) that does too. :pals:
It's great that you and she will go see the movie together. :) I wish Al Gore's movie were showing closer to where we are. Last time I checked there's nowhere close yet but we're near a couple of state university towns so it should show up soon (I hope).

11. On the other hand, what is the propellant in the cans? |
|
Is it going to stay in the cans long enough for it to become harmless, or will the cans get punctured in the garbage (eg in landfill) and release the gas anyway?
The more important thing is not to buy any more. She could even save the cans she has for special occasions.

13. Take the hair spray cans to a hazardous waste site. Throwing them |
|
away adds to the land fill sites and could possibly lead to further contamination of ground water.
